GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Me Playing Hotel California

Posted by: Emir Hot Mar 26 2010, 12:44 AM

This is what I usually do every weekend. Ross is my good friend and we play in local pubs and clubs in and around London a lot. This is the video from St. Patrics day (last Wednesday) at a pub in Wimbledon.

I didn't really play this one very good smile.gif I always improvise as you can see... We never learn songs to sound like the original but somehow it always works ok for the audience.

Wow, that was awesome!
Works ok for me too biggrin.gif

Great, thanks for sharing!

awesome performance as always! and nice voice from your friend.

Thanks, I enjoyed that. I was thinking "bet Emir with a double neck would really suit this song". Then I looked and low and behold, Eagles did use one in 2004. Somebody buy Emir a double neck, as a public service.

haha yeah it would be nice to try on double neck, 12 and 6 strings.

Btw. I put 0.13 strings on this guitar. It's crazy hard to play solos and bends. You can probably hear how much I'm struggling smile.gif

To be honest, I hardly know any song to perform with the exact notes. I've improvised since I known for myself. I guess it's more interesting anyway.

I like the sound of your guitar. Works fine for me as well ;D

I enjoyed watching that very much! I will let the few mistakes you made slide and won't comment laugh.gif laugh.gif

Is that a Chet Atkins signature or a Godin thin body acoustic? Sounds nice through the PA.

Thanks for sharing your jam smile.gif

haha no man I wish I had that guitar. This is crappy copy of Ovation called "Aplause" smile.gif Costs about £150.

Bends and slides are just not coming out as I'm using 0.13 strings. Sometimes you have to find a way to make your life difficult. Stupid me smile.gif

Hahaha.. I used to have one of those (Aplause). It always fretted out from the 12th fret down. I didn't see the thin round back because the video was a little dark.

Rock On Emir!

Awesome playing Emir Hot, I like it smile.gif

You rock man! ...great performance. Even though you improvised a lot (which was real cool), the solo at the end was still pretty true to the original. Awesome acoustic playing!

Really cool cover Emir! I would love to listen to you guys live! smile.gif

Posted by: DenisN Mar 26 2010, 06:51 AM

Nice, cover....I always like to hear someone playing their own interpretation....but I never had a feeling that Hotel California is a drinking song for St. Patrick hahaha biggrin.gif

Great one Emir. smile.gif

There is no gig without this tune. We get request for this song from about 15 people every time we play. I've played it hundreds of times but never got bored of this one.

Emir playing acoustic .. thats something I had'nt seen before ... Very nice smile.gif .. Vocalist is good too .

Posted by: intemperateControl Mar 26 2010, 01:34 PM

Very cool - a great new version of this classic tune. Would also like to hear
your version with the electric guitar sound - your singer has a great voice.

This sounds awesome! Your friend has really good voice!

Yeah I tried to play that solo as it goes on the record but you can't possibly bend all those notes on this piece of wood with 0.13 strings smile.gif

Nice one Emir!!
I must get up to London and come see you play again!!
biggrin.gif

Wow great job tongue.gif you play acoustic as fluid as electric tongue.gif I always have a hard time bending on acoustic, but you don't seem to have any troubles tongue.gif
