GMC Forum _ Gabriel Leopardi _ British Metal Collab 3
Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Jan 15 2013, 06:53 PM
Hello guys!! Welcome to the end of this trilogy. This is the part 3 of the Brisith Metal Video Collabs, the biggest, the coolest.... and this doesn't mean that the previous ones haven't been amazing. Check them out:
This time we have a backing inspired by 3 songs by Judas Priest... The Hellion, Painkiller and Exciter.
My idea for this one is to start with that intro with all the participants,,, maybe picture in picture, or fast changes, so please don't record a solo over the first melodies, but film yourself playing that melody of the chords... (E5 - C5 - D5).
Then starts the Painkiller style riff, there you can create a solo using E minor scalle or E pentatonic minor. Finally we have a neoclassical progression inspired by the solo of the song Exciter. There the scale that you can use is A minor.
This is that progression: Am - F - G - C - F - Dm - E. You MUST use A harmonic minor over the chord E in this progression.
This is a "video" collab, so I will need audio & video from you. You should be sending exactly these 3 files:
Audio File 1: This file must be a mix of your solo and the backing track. Audio File 2: This file must be only your guitar solo (no backing) Video File: Video of you playing the solo. (audo isn't important in this one, it can be the one that the camera captures)
How to send the files? The best way for me is using "Wetransfer.com" and sending the files to [email protected]
Let me know if you have any other question about how to participate!
WHO IS IN???
PS: This collab will be dedicated to our great British friend Ben Higgins. Thanks for your inspiration mate.

Hi everyone,
I've been working on making a more quality video the last couple days. Not perfect with a couple editing errors but at least I think I'm getting better. Took me a long time just to get this. I was trying to do split screen and the file would crash... had to start all over twice!

Todd literally meant three red BULLS.... He butchered them himself with his bare hands then had lots of raw meat before doing that beastly solo.... He is truly a beast and a madman with all those fingers on one hand.

Bingo! I briefly embraced the ancient "Mythras" religion and slaughtered three bulls and stood in a pit while their blood drained on me and I wrote this Solo Well worth it!!!

LOL! it should be a requirement of life itself Also when you mention crossroads to someone, if you then have to say " no, not the one with brtney spears" you should be allowed to slap that person.

I like this take. It's rhythmic, the tone is superb and the harmonies sound way cool. Will you shoot two videos? :-)

I don't know guys this is what I came up with... Listen to it and tell me what to improve on? And yeah I played in harmony with the opening riff.
That's a nice take. Some of my noobish remarks: 1.I think you should work on the overall feel- you have cool ideas. Try to think about your solo as a whole, not a separate licks. 2.Some timing issues 3.I like the beginning of the chorus very much. 4.A very strange bend on 0:55. As for me it's out of pitch.
It's good. Keep rocking!

They're not noobish at all Jouve! Personally, I thought that I'd bent that note a little too high myself, but my ears were tired so I thought it must be only me. But I re recorded it, I think I solved the problem

It's great how much you improved your take comparing this one with the previous one! It sounds much better, the composition and also your playing. This take could work for the collab, but if you still want to improve it, concentrate even more on timing, and expression (vibrato and bending). Also I feel that your guitar is a bit out of tune in the last melodies...
Is this the same young lady that was saying she couldn't do some if these collabs? I'm confused... That was Killer!

and special thanks ad congrats to Enlo & Grace for finally deciding to join a Collaboration! You are pure inspiration to all the guys out there connected that maybe don't feel 100% comfortable to join a collab here, or submit REC videos. You rock!

I just had some lousy 1½ weeks, and did not have the time to record anything this weekend as planned. But tonight I came up with this:
It is not the final version I hope I get the time to make it better the next two days

I wish you well Ulrik! As I had told you, I have had a very similar experience as you have just gone through (TWICE). Things will work themselves out...
Meantime, I liked your take! Good playing sir!

Here is my Video Take for this Spiff Collab. It's got a bit of Metal Tongue In Cheek. I used my Midi Guitar as a opposed to a real guitar for the vid. it's probably overkill but I produced it in FULL 1080p HD so the file is a bit large even when compressed. But I don't think we talked about resolution for video now that I think about it so I hope it's OK
Here is a link to download the vid as an MP4 movie file.
Here is a preview of JUST THE END of the solo on youtube. Enjoy!!!

So I just found out, that watching the video on loop is a bad idea, because after one loop the sound is delayed

I have this slight feeling that it is expected of me to submit a take for this collab, maybe even a duet just to close the circle (or triangle?). However, due to tecnical difficulties that could not have been foreseen by me nor Paul Gilbert, things have been somewhat delayed. Let me just say that things are under control now, and I am likely to appear in the final product (although there will be only one of me).

Hello guys! This is the final video of this amazing collaboration!! I’m so happy with the final result! I want to thank everybody that joined this one! It’s been so cool to end this trilogy with something so special.
Ben & HFH: What can I say? You both are amazing players, and united could make a brilliant take! I was really surprised when I received the files by Ben. Thanks a lot guys!
DeGroot: Hi Randy “DeGroot” Roads! Your take is epic! The neoclassical section makes me remember to Mr Crowley! Great job mate!
Enlo: Hi mate! You did a really cool take over the neoclassical section! The take has great balance of shred, rock and melody, and also a very good tone. Well done! Thanks!
Gitarrero: The German Guy can rock you without doing “his thing”. You did a really cool take and you could amaze us without using “Crazy Train’s Riff”. Great job!! Thanks for your take and for showing us your two personalities in the video!
Grace: Hey! You are the surprise on this collab! You said that you weren’t good enough and then you composed a killer solo! Every note sounds good over the backing and everything is played perfectly. Congrats on being the first lady on a GMC collab ever!
Jouve: Hi mate! Your take is mysterious, dark, but very tasty. You can compose really tasty and melodic solos and at the same time keep your style fresh. Thanks for your take!
Sammetal: Another surprise!! I’m glad to see you working hard at GMC and would like to congrat you on your first collab! Your take sounds very good! There are some little timing issues to pay attention but we will work on it!
Slavenko: Hey metal master! I like your solo, I think that the overall idea is cool. There are some technique issues with faster section, and also an scale issue in the neoclassical section that we should work! Thanks for joining mate!
Socky: Hey mate! You rocker this one!! I enjoyed a lot your solo and also you perfectly produced video. Thanks for taking your time to join this one!
Todd: You get better and better mate! This take is brilliant; your fingers are so fast! Thanks for sharing your majesty with us!
TonyK: Hi Tony! Thanks for your take mate! The overall sounds good, you just have to pay attention to timing. Keep on rocking!
Ulrik: Hey mate! I like to see you improving all the time! I know that you have been very busy, but I can note that your soloing is getting more mature. Great job!
WeePee: Hi mate! Your take sounds very professional, both your tone and technique are really good! And the harmonization sounds killer! Well done!

Woohoo! Sounds great... lovin' the intro with all the trade offs.
Great editing Gab and thanks for the comment!!
So when is Part 4 ??
hahah doing the 3rd part was risky... a 4th part would be so dangerous...
QUOTE (Slavenko Erazer @ Feb 5 2013, 06:58 AM)
Which neoclassical section? U mean that descending run? It's supposed to sound that way, i kinda tried to mimick Keery King style...
No, that lick is cool! I mean when the neoclassical progression starts, the painkiller riff ends and the progression starting with Am begins... there you have some issues with the scale choice/harmonizations... what scale did you use?

Grace: Hey! You are the surprise on this collab! You said that you weren’t good enough and then you composed a killer solo! Every note sounds good over the backing and everything is played perfectly. Congrats on being the first lady on a GMC collab ever!
Thank you, Gabriel! I already did one , too.
Grace, I like your take! The hole Collab is a blast!!!

Thanks mate. Don't worry, more cool collabs are coming!
So, we all know there will be three prequel collabs to this (classic hard rock maybe?) and 3 sequels (either Disney soundtrack style or alternative metal).

Well done!

wOW WOw - Incredible work that was so captivating from start to finish. After watching that I say don't let technique get in the way of a good idea. You all should be very proud. Gabe you've done another master piece. That flowed so well. Really amazed by the video work in this one.

Wow! I've heard the word "Epic!" in this thread & I agree! Nice job to all the soloists (& a couple of duets!). I am half-way in between my feelings of truly inspired & completely intimidated by the talent level in this collab. Ok, I'll be a "glass is half-full" kind of guy & claim that I am truly inspired! I've listened to this a few times & know I will listen to it even more later cause I like it so much! Way to go GMC'ers!!!!
