Hmmm... I always play all open string Like a Chord to check if the guitar is in tune, but first sensible thing I play would be the intro to Van Halens Ain't talking about love wink.gif

I normally do a few palm mutes while changing the volume of my guitar on my amp... once that is done I play the things I wrote. I got a new song and its got some good piano! This is all after tunning my guitar.

Yeah, I don't think that I've thought about that before...

I guess first I always play just an E major scale, or some scale, to get my fingers moving.

I usually start out with some minor pentatonic licks, just some messing around, improv and the like just to "get in the zone". smile.gif I usually play in E, I don't know why. It just seems natural. After that, I do some legato (as I can't do speedpicking anywhere near as fast or clean yet) up and down the neck to get my left hand warmed up.

I tend to play something just going chromatically through the fretboard to get my fingers working..Also I tend to play a G major scale too when I pick up guitar and warm up..

Usually hit an E major chord, check the guitar is in tune then probably do a bit of a metal chug riff around E,F,G and A just to get in the mood, then some scale warm ups, normally a major scale.

Do some chords, check it its in tune.

Then noodle around for 5-10 min in e minor or a minor.

Then get to work! Some time the noodling last for the upwards of 2-3 hours smile.gif.

I always start playing some minor pentatonic all over the fretboard, then switch to aeolian and keep at it for a while.
