GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Downtime

Hi there,
I am very sad to announce one of the longest downtimes ever at GMC - 13 hours and 24 minutes! 
We are back online now and I really hope this won't happen ever again!
Those who are interested in the details can check out the status updates from the hosting company below.
We apologise and we will add two days to everyone's account to compensate for this.
Expected Downtime: Unknown
Reason: Under investigation

At the moment we experience some troubles in (part of) our network.
We are doing our utmost to solve this issue a.s.a.p.
As soon as we have more information available, we will publish it here.
Please be patient while we are working on this problem.
An network engineer is in the neighbourhood, he will be on site in 5 minutes.

The core switch had a faulty supervisor. The engineer onsite has replaced it and is in the process of getting the switch back online.
[UPDATE 19:28]
The spare supervisor is also crashing. The engineer onsite is now testing the linecards to pinpoint the cause.
[UPDATE 20:05]
Both coreswitches refuse to come online.
Two engineers are underway with more spare parts.
[UPDATE 20:25]
We've managed to get one coreswitch back online.
However some racks are still down, we're continuing to fix these issues.
[UPDATE 21:25]
Most racks are back online.
Some cabling to the secondary coreswitch is not working correctly, we are now have 4 engineers on location, they are working to get all racks online ASAP.
[UPDATE 22:50]
Both coreswitches are online again.
some customers might notice a short interruption once they switch back to the primary coreswitch.
[UPDATE 02:30]
All our checks show all customers are online again.

. Was almost developing withdrawal symptoms .
The two days extra time are a gracious compensation though, thanks Kris.

I experienced it live. I was uploading a lesson when everything is down. Had to getup at 5A.M to finish what I have started. The thing it was so long that i thought that it was my gear or my ISP what was wrong. That´s good that everything come back to normal.

Thanks for the info Kris, and really nice of you adding 2 days because of this. Stuff like that happens, I guess no hosting company is flawless.
I'm so relieved this morning knowing that it wasn't a problem on my end!, it feels like a desert being on the net without GMC

I was worried my cookies or internet was causing connection problems until Muris told me GMC was down. So glad things are back and running now.

Oh my, I missed the lessons so much!
And I thought it was me or something...
So yesterday was the very first memorable BLACK day of GMC
But there's no history without world wide tragedies and collapses either...

wow that's pretty cool - it's because the chat is hosted elsewhere... I wonder what would have happened if you had refreshed (F5) the chat window. If this does happen again - don't try it, though!

I can breathe again
I panicked yesterday, and started eyeballing my mothers medicine cabinet after some hours without the reassuring and satisfying click on the "View New Posts" button.. But we're back! Yay!
I also thought the forum was down earlier today, but luckily it was only my router who caught fire =)
Easily changed and back on the forums in notime

I'm on this site every day. It was a real problem to not be able to "log in". I too, thought there was something wrong at my end. What a relief! I guess I am also addicted. It's a good addiction.

Wow,
I guess I found the right time to get busy at work and a bit sick so I haven't been on the last two day. Since I'm such a loud mouth I'm sure I would have thought Kris was trying to get a really new player up and running .
