My suggestion would be to start from the bottom and just do some "drilling". Turn on the metronome and play 8th notes. Pick the single note on any of the strings. Now, try to start picking really soft and then go up in loudness to the maximum strength with which you can pick the note (without breaking the string hehe). The goal is to start hearing how different picking strength affects the tone and how much space between min-max (in picking strenght) you have. Now the point of the above exercise is to get used to picking notes with different picking strength (while keeping time). Next step would be to apply and experiment with dynamics in everything you play. You can do it with my Boogie Guitar lesson. Try picking some of the notes harder to see how it feels and sounds. For start you can do it on the beats on which the snare drum hits. Please feel free to send me a video where you are experimenting with this and I'll comment. Next step is to try emulating that. Not all notes are picked with the same strenght and this makes a really huge difference musically.
