DIVINUS MORTUS (Sacred Dead)

Attached Image

I"ve started a new Music Project called

DIVINUS MORTUS (Steel Panther was already taken)

*Here is our BANDCAMP Page.
http://divinusmortus.bandcamp.com/

Which will be the name for the overal project and I"m planning on guesting musicians from all over including folks here @ GMC! I wanted to start this thread to track our progress.

*PM ME IF YOU WANT TO JUMP IN!!!!

Dokugan has jumped in and is working on Drum Tracks and it's going great! Here is his KILLER reaper file. We are doing drums first to get the rythm elements sorted. Guitars will actually come last on each track as that's the bit that usually gives the least trouble smile.gif

Attached File  DIVINUS_MORTIS1B.RPP.zip ( 7.47K ) Number of downloads: 134

No worries! Are you still gonna pitch in with the other virtual band thing I saw a bit back? What did we call it? "On Occasion" or "When I get time" something like that?

Yeah, I like the ideas here too. I wouldn't mind trying some riffing ideas over it! My only thought would be to maybe have some variety to break up the pattern, as it pretty much is double kick all the way through. It is a good job though and the fills are well placed.

I've been trying to come up with some drums tracks myself but nothing too inspiring yet. dry.gif I think I need one of these metal expansions for EZdrummer to inspire me more. I'm leaning towards Metal Machine with Andy Sneap and John Tempesta.
Anyone here use this expansion kit or have an opinion on it?

Yep I have one and Metal Machine is way more better than original drums from hell. There's lot of drumming and even complete songs. I have used them with little bit tweaking of course. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!

Ville's Sample DivMor

Toontrack has released new ROCK SOLID EZX this mothn. You should check it too.

Thanks for the info! I think I'm probably going to go with Metal Machine. Just has a great sound without sounding to mechanical/triggered.

ROCK SOILD sounds good but it only has the one kick drum. I think Metal Machine probably will be more flexible too.

We not quite to the RIFF stage yet (not as far as this project and this track, but if you want to riff over this track to try things out so you've got something ready, GO FOR IT!!!)

DEGROOT: If you would, download this reaper file from Dokugans folder on our drop box and open it up. See if you can dig in to the bass drum drum track and save a version in YOUR folder with your changes so we can hear what you are thinking? I'd like everyone to try to dig in to the "click level" and put their hands on it if possible.

As for Metal Machine, I have it and it RAWKS. The only thing is, most people have DRUMS FROM HELL which also RAWKS. I would say get Drums From Hell first if possible for compatibility and the fact that it RAWKS. Then add Machine later for extra sonic choices. The DFH kit is a bit more flexible in terms of samples, IMHO. The MACHINE kit is very, very niche. It's perferct for what it is though.

I tried to get into Dokugans drums but wasn't able to see the separate tracks. Regardless, the track is pretty awesome as is and I don't really see myself making it better.

Thanks for the input about DFH and Metal Machine. I figured out more about the basic EZdrummer and think I can manage some of my ideas much better now (really new to working in this format). I checked out all the tracks in the dropbox and there is some really high quality drums (Vonhotch and Ville). I won't mess around too much with riffing until you think we are ready to go! Going to focus on getting a complete drum track finished first.

AWESOME smile.gif I'm really digging where the drum tracks are at and I think we might make each one it's own song. Going to post soundcloud versions of all of them here for folks to hear.

DRUMS UPDATE!!!!

I"m hoping we can all learn and grow a bit as we work on this project together smile.gif Here is a SPIFFFFFFFFFF drum track from VON HOTCH (DivinusMortus1 in his DropBox folder) and I've uploaded the original and a version with

Compressor
Reverb
E.Q.

I've added some quick fx/settings just to illustrate some possible settings that might work on drums in general. There are a billion ways to skin this particular cat and this is just one example, but take a look at the project file and click on FX to see the fx used (All are native to Reaper and require no additional software/installs)

Here is the udpated project file with FX.

Attached File  VonHotch_DM1_ToddMod_Divinusmortus1.RPP.zip ( 8.82K ) Number of downloads: 99

Here is the original (Which I'm really diggin BTW! Great drumming Von!)

https://soundcloud.com/techniqueswithtodd/original-vonhotch

And here is what it sounds like (I left an echo on to make it pretty obvious which is which)

https://soundcloud.com/techniqueswithtodd/vonhotch-dm1-toddmod

NEXT UP!!!!!

Guys, your doing GREAT on drum tracks! Open up your REAPER files and experiment a bit adding Compression, Reverb, EQ, etc. And share your results. This is a great way to get your feet wet putting some "wet" (fx) on your drum bits. Please feel free to ask questions/provide tips on adding fx.

Here is a vid about using the plugins/fx built in to REAPER and making it easier/quicker.
