This is exactly the problem with GR4, one just simply cannot create a desent high gain sound. Usually, when you have a great sound for muting, the power chords sound awful, and vice-versa. I am really working hard, and I'm also getting results, but it takes time. GR4 is perfect for rock, blues, jazz tho.

I tryed Revalver, but it's too "plastic". Also tried dozens of other effects. Line6 is only good for lead. I realised that these effects will never sound like the original amps... tongue.gif But that's just the way it should be biggrin.gif

This is all just my oppinion. If anyone dissaproves, or have a different point of veiw, I'd humbly like to ask him to post some stuff smile.gif

+1 on Ivan's comments.

I have compared both and while I own Pod Farm, have only had limited experience with Guitar Rig. To me, each has their own strenghts with regard to amp models. I like the Marshall like tones of the GTR4 better than those of Pod Farm, but for cleaner low gain tones, I'm leaning toward Pod Farm. Another thing I like about Pod Farm is that it's amp models, and even effects are exact duplicates of those that are found in the Pod X3. The parameters for each amp and effect are exactly the same so you can get exactly the same tone from Pod Farm during re-amp as you can get Live from the X3.

As for user interface, the Pod Farm presents it's effects as stomp boxes and the amp & cabinets graphically as if in a studio room sitting on the floor while GTR4 presents everything as a rack rig. Both are cool and intuitive. They are both decent enough so that you should let the their sound be the deciding factor and not the GUI (IMHO). In the end, you might want to get both. You can never have too many tools in the tool box.

And speaking of tone, have you heard Steve Lukather's new release? Wow, talk about spectacular! If anyone figures out how to get anthing even close to that using modeling tools, be sure to write up a tutorial and post it on the WIKI.

Humbly presenting a track:

Tone is subjective but I really like this sound and my publisher does too.

Todd here wink.gif I just posted a few samples of some quick takes with Guitr Rig 4 and some of the stock patches that are shipping with the new version including the Ramstein settings. It's in the post right above your in this thread. I was really impressed with it. I'm a bit of a skeptic on most guitar emulation software but this newest version of GTRig has impressed me quite a bit. It seems they are getting a handle on their gain emulation. Take a listen and let me know what you think.

Still, it isn't everything to everyone so what I think sounds good could easily sound like crap to other ears. Tone is a very personal things.

So far, GTR4 and Amplitude Metal are the only ones I've been able to get high gain tones I like, but hey that's just me.

Know why? Because you can't see the crap from where your standing. tongue.gif

Haha, I like that!

I have POD farm and I've often wished I could try out GR4 or a few other modeling softwares. To me, POD farm seems like something you can get a good variety of tones with, but the others seem to have more "boutique" like tones, if that makes sense. To analogize it with overdrive pedals:

POD Farm = Tubescreamer

GR4/Amplitube/Softube = Zendrive

But, at the same time, I haven't actually used the other softwares, so my opinion is only based off of what I've heard of the tones of other people who use GR4/Amplitube/Softube. Oh, and I highly recommend checking out Softube. Its a Swedish company that makes some of the finest amp modelers I've ever heard! They are a bit pricey, but wow they sound good!

Thanks smile.gif GTR4 will also do waaaay crazy things with your tone. Dig this little snippet. It's just a guitar with a stock patch but it doesn't sound anything like a guitar.
Attached File  EnvelopFilter.mp3 ( 240.74K ) Number of downloads: 241

to give you some idea of how much gain is on the patch you liked, here is the source file for the lead example with nothing on it. It's recorded at very low volume and was really quick and dirty so it's not a very good recording and gtr4 somehow made it really rip.
Attached File  leadclean.mp3 ( 319.31K ) Number of downloads: 316

and again with the stock patch for reference.
Attached File  gtrrig4_lead.mp3 ( 319.31K ) Number of downloads: 268

Guys, by the way, can you only use POD farm if you own a line 6 device??

No, you can use it with any software. Line 6 Pod studio and other devices act as external sound cards. You can use them with Guitar Rig, Amplitube and other software but how well they'll work is a question - there could be slight latency.

Todd

This has been a really cool thread with tons of good info about software amp modeling. I actually found it through a google search and it seems to have been resurrected by all the recent posts. Great information guys thanks for sharing!

BTW There is a place on the Native Instruments Website where you can download hundreds of user patches for Guitar Rig! I just posted one called Psycho Crunch!
