I took a piano class at my University last year and did very well and enjoyed the class very much. It enabled me to refresh my music reading abilities (Jazz band in middle school). It allowed me to translate or transpose (not sure which is the correct term) music from piano to guitar and vice versa. Just a while ago i noticed myself on my keyboard playing a few simple triads independently at a fast tempo and i realized that tapping with both hands felt very normal and tension free due to my piano days.

I then started making very simple fast tempo "licks" on the piano and simply count intervals and play it with tapping on guitar. Now i see the fretboard in a much clearer way when tapping and playing in general. cool.gif

Piano is a very easy instrument to learn and i recommend trying it out for those who haven't, it will only help with your musical knowledge. That goes for other instruments as well.

probably should have put this in another section...sorry!

Maybe Andrew can move it.

Layzer, I totally agree with you!
I play the piano myself and that has definitely helped me improve my guitar playing.

got you cornered marcus. would really like to see a composition of yours dedicated to tapping. with your style (which is very beautiful playing) i think that would be very very interesting. I realize you have some tapping, as do others. we all do. but would like to see what you would do with a lesson really dedicated to that. your lessons tend to be compositions, and you clearly have put a lot of effort into your "sound" that is why i think it would be interesting.

Yea, I used to more serious about bass guiar when I was younger and there are videos on youtube of Victor Lemonte Wooten explaining his tapping technique. He says its very related to playing the keys on a piano and if you watch the videos you will definitely see what I'm saying. What Im trying to do with my tapping technique is not just play cliche Halen runs but e
body full chords and vibrato with my left hand switching from over the fretboard and under it, utilizing almost all eight fingers in some exercises. It;s not shredding stuff like Niels Veldjt style, but im working on it. smile.gif
