Do you know the band Avenged Sevenfold? What do you think about them?

Well, you don't need to ask me, because it's one of the best band in the world. rolleyes.gif
Synyster is great with the guitar!

Posted by: Owen Jul 16 2007, 04:41 PM

Avenged Sevenfold are good in studio but live they are sloppy, I've seen the video's and sometimes they just completely mess up their own solo's and lack precision.

Posted by: Eat-Sleep-andJam Jul 16 2007, 04:46 PM

I coundnt agree more with Owen ^

The Sieze the Day solo by them though is a real turn on for me being that it speaks to me and all.

( And yes I just said turn on biggrin.gif tongue.gif )

You should check out bat country and beast and the harlot by a7x.Those are the only songs of theirs i know(including seize the day.)

i think they are bashed ALOT by "REAL METAL FANS" and whatev. however, i think they're really talented. i agree with the live bit. the vocals turned me off a bit on their city of evil, but the guitar work was still intense. their second album, unholy confessions (i think that's what it's called, haha. i just have a burned cd of it) is classic! great vocals, and awesome solos. check out Chapter Four!! the song is kinda good, but the solo is INTENSE.

Posted by: ibanezkiller Jul 17 2007, 01:55 AM

i like them there, on my top 20

I don't know them well - what album would you suggest to get started with them?

i havent seen them live so i wouldnt kno about that but i like most of their songs

city of evil is pretty good andrew, check out some stuff from there if u havent heard of them

I agree with that .They dont sound very well live.I also dont care for there singer , i just dont think he has a good voice especially live.Synyster Gates is a really good guitarist though. He went to school at MIT i think a music school were he practiced a lot of jazz style and he puts some very ood solo's together.I feel though sometimes he over does himself in the studio as he cant replicate it when playing live.Overall there an alright band that i think will improve in the future more

Posted by: SLASH91 Jul 17 2007, 04:06 AM

Yeah, they're pretty good. But all I've heard is their City of Evil album.

Posted by: GodofFire16 Jul 17 2007, 04:17 AM

They're probably one of my favorite bands, and are in fact the reason I discovered GMC in the first place tongue.gif . I've been trying to learn the solo in the song Second Heartbeat for ages, which led me here in search of new techniques.
I wasn't particularly a fan of their Sounding the Seventh Trumpet album, and while City of Evil is good, I feel its a little overproduced. Waking the Fallen is and has always been my favorite from them. Guess we'll see if that changes when their new CD comes out soon biggrin.gif

I started hearing them back in like 2001; but they probably got started earlier.

I honstly dont care for them much. They do hav great guitarists tho but I think they way they carry themselves is too much a created image. I still remember that time the lead singer spit in a kid's face for an autograph or something, all over the news and what not. Personally, I feel like there's more bands out there with less atitude and more talent.

spit in a kids face? are u kiddin? ohmy.gif ohmy.gif , damn! what a big lack of respect. I swear that if James Hetfield would do that to a fan i would probably stop listening to metallica. Is not only about the music, but about their attitude and level of respect. mad.gif

Posted by: AliMo Jul 18 2007, 02:48 AM

wow i never heard that before, is thats true then they just lost a whole lot of my respect

Posted by: Anastasio123 Jul 18 2007, 04:45 AM

Yea, I felt the same way when I heard about that. Their music I could like, but it's hard to learn to love something when you have to live with the fact thats its been created by a bunch immature, premodonas. However, I think the singer is the only real headcase, so kudos to the rest of the band for making some great metal. Or at least from what ive heard wink.gif

Posted by: SLASH91 Jul 18 2007, 04:49 AM

Lead singers almost always are. Heck, even James Hetfield is kind of arrogant. But, yeah, spitting in a kid's face is pretty bad.

Posted by: lost-jgs Jul 19 2007, 07:11 AM

i liked their 2nd album (waking the fallen) quite a bit

not a huge fan of city of evil

Posted by: blindwillie Jul 20 2007, 02:46 PM

Don't know much about them. I like the things I've heard. Especially MIA. I do know they use Schecter's though biggrin.gif

Posted by: Mer-V Jul 21 2007, 11:40 PM

I really like their drumming... Seen them live as well (opening for Metallica on their 'Out of the Studio' tour), and I can't really say that I didn't like it. However, back then it was the first time heard them, so there was no studio material for me to compare with. What I did notice though, was the gigantous mosh-pit that they seemed to set into motion tongue.gif.

I think they have really good songs though, 'Beast and the Harlot', 'Blinded in Chains', 'Unholy Confessions' they'r all nice songs.

Posted by: mattacuk Jul 22 2007, 01:24 PM

I have only seen them in magazines. I have never even heard one of there songs! Maybe i should check them out on youtube ! smile.gif

Posted by: PacmanProductions Aug 22 2007, 08:29 AM

I would rate them about a 7, only because Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengence are good guitarists, I would suggest "Beast and the Harlot, Bat Country, Seize the Day, Unholy Confessions (i dont like the singing in this song), and my favorite- M.I.A.

Also, if you see any lessons on YouTube for their songs (by Syn or Zacky), don't click them, they sound pretty bad...

Posted by: Dansol Aug 22 2007, 10:49 PM

There albums are quite good. The lead guitarist seems to think he is some guitar god which he really isnt. cool band tho

Posted by: PacmanProductions Oct 16 2007, 05:49 AM

Everyone check out their newest album (i dont know the name) coming out 10/30/07!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Songs like "Almost Easy" and "Critical Acclaim" are awesome!

i listen to 3 songs on YouTube, I don't see the big fuss? This band doesn't sound very unique or exciting.

Edit: I have just read up this topic. I am shocked how many people here like them. I am not shocked about the lead singer spitting in a kids face, they are obviously so awesome they can do whatever they want. Doing that to a devoted fan, who spends their money on buying your album and ticket to your show and you spit at em, disgusting.

Gotta agree with you there. I tried to listen trough three songs on youtube aswell, definitely not unique in any way. Of course its ok that people like them, but I dont see how. And if the thing about the vocalist spitting in a kids face is true, then I hope he drive off a cliff.

Those drums are just fast. I thought it was triggered at first but when I saw some videos of them live, I have to give to to him. He has some fast gravity blast.

It takes a while to get used to death metal/grind lyrics. Especially when your listening to this kind of death metal/grind. I sometimes still use lyrics but it becomes understandable in a few listens.

No One Knows:

There'll be a time
Where I can take what they've taught and make it work

THIS would be a better place if you could free you mind of thought
THOUGH to be in this place life, has abandoned you
WORLD that we now live in has changed so rapidly
THERE'S no need for equality equality

All the dreams, ideals you fought for, waiting now for someone else
It's not real, that you're feeling parts of life's exterior
I can see you body rot, gaze upon your cornea
No one wins we end together, values, visions dead forever

HATE to be nothing why do you abandon me
WORDS without actions lies they mean nothing
CAN'T you all see the light that waves in front of you
THIS could be a mirror of the only ever way that WE'VE KNOWN

I can take what they've taught and make it work

THIS would be a better place if you could free you mind of thought
THOUGH to be in this place life, has abandoned you
WORLD that we now live in has changed so rapidly
THERE'S no need for equality equality

I can say that they sound very strange to me. They combine very punk/metal/hardcore music with a very pop/soft voice. I still don't know if I like it. blink.gif In the studio the guitar player and the drummer seams to be good, I haven't seen live videos.

Saw Avenged Sevenfold live at Graspop. They didn't impress me that much but it was cool to hear them covering 'walk' of Pantera. I can listen to this band for 1 or 2 songs but then I had it. The voice of their singer becomes so irritating after some time...

A7x are some of the most amazing, talent people in the music business today!

they are my favourite band ever simply because of how their music makes me feel,
Sevenfold always manage to get everyone in the room feeling good, despite anythin that may be happening in your life at the time, which is what music should do,

if you want an example, listen to " A Little Piece of Heaven " and then watch the making of it on you tube, and i guarentee that you will see what i mean, its just exactly what music should be!

And yes there is a wee problem with the solo's and playing them live, but that only because of how they end up getting written, to play it properly you need like 4 guitarist and a conductor! ( watch " Avenged Sevenfold Critical Webclip 1 " on you tube and you will understand )

Now no 1 band is going to be perfect for EVERYONE ( well, except queen of course tongue.gif ) but different music means different things to different people, Andfor me this band is everythin that a band should be, amazing people, they put on a good show, and you always feel good when you listen to them, no matter how bad a day you have had, and anybody that disagrees with that shouldnt be playing music, becuase you have obviously forgot what music is all about...

Posted by: xucphra Jan 8 2008, 12:37 AM

They are a controversial band. Some people like them, and some don't. I personally like the guitarist's sound, and the band is one of my favorites. That doesn't mean that I like all their songs though. The band has changed very much.
Originally, they only made punk/metal music that was only screaming and some power chords etc. Then later, transitioning a little bit; they started making a bit more melodic music when Waking the Fallen came out, with some catchy solos and more singing integrated into the screaming.
Finally changing completely, City of Evil was completely singing, more of a thrash metal album.
That's why some people don't like Avenged Sevenfold. Most people have only heard the main 'hits'; Bat Country and Beast and the Harlot [which, if you ask me, happen to be a couple of the worst, and are only popular due to the overenthusiastic 12 year old girls that watch MTV all day and obsess over My Chemical Romance]. The point is, there will probably be at least a song, if not an album that will satisfy anybodies tastes.

nah, man.
Synyster Gates is good. Won TG Guitarist of the year smile.gif
Yeah, I can see why some people don't like him. Personally, I can't STAND Pantera...biggest load of whatever I've ever heard....but my opinion. Dimebag sounds terribly with that Krank amp...In Flames, in comparison, absolutely school him....IMHO smile.gif
Avenged are quite good smile.gif

Posted by: PanamaMan Jan 12 2008, 12:23 AM

Avenged makes good music but synyster gates annoys me to no end.He isnt that good and cant stand the poser image they put out.I hate it when a band is as concerned with image as the music.Other than that i do enjoy listening to them lol

Posted by: Paul Coutts Jan 12 2008, 11:58 AM

Yeah the image is a little lame smile.gif But I also think that as stupid as he looks...no-one looks like him. He has got his own thing going.

Watching this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpN08dYV1fU&feature=related

I see him as a modern, heavier slash. He's cool, I think.
But honestly, his Total Guitar lessons aren't so good.

Posted by: edguy Jan 12 2008, 12:25 PM

I saw Avenged Sevenfold live two years ago and i have to say i like them. I love the voice from the singer and their guitar work. When i am listen to this band i am feelin happy and want to take my guitar and play.
But i think we don't have to analyse every band, sometimes you like a band and you don't know why:)

Posted by: TortillaShred Jan 15 2008, 08:06 PM

Some of their solos are pretty bleh, but i like some like the seize the day one with a perfectly positioned pinch at the end.

Posted by: Goliath Jan 15 2008, 10:52 PM

The Vocals have improved a good bit in their newest effort, but the guitars took a hit. CoE still has their best guitarwork IMO.

I saw Syn play live just before Thanksgiving, and he's gotten better and has a pretty good mastery of his own material now.

Posted by: Paul Coutts Jan 15 2008, 11:41 PM

Yeah, I think Syn is a great guitarist in his own right. And yeah, the vocals did get better. That's cause the vocalist, M Shadows, blow up his vocals chords and was bleeding on stage or something like that.
Had to take months of singing lessons to continue.
I think all their albums are good, not great, but definetly good.
Waking The Fallen is best imo

Posted by: DannyRhoads1922 Jan 17 2008, 08:36 AM

I saw A7X live 2 nights in a row 11/14 and 11/15 at hammerstein in NYC then the Electric Factory in Philly and let me tell you they rocked the place both times.Every instrument was flawless and the vocals were great. There image is kinda gay especially Synyster Gates but they are an awsome band that makes good music.

Posted by: Goliath Jan 17 2008, 01:16 PM

I don't think I could have handled 2 nights of highschool girls and their d-bag boyfriends both wearing those "Synyster Gates Special" hats. I got so tired of lifting them out of the pit, it was unbelievable.

Posted by: Eat-Sleep-andJam Jan 17 2008, 01:25 PM

I do like A7x but I dont like bands that change their image. If your metalcore-stay metalcore, if your punk- stay punk. Be true to what type of music you like and enjoy playing for and dont be bending over for fans, thats when the [poo] starts to suck.

Edited for language - Andrew

Posted by: Goliath Jan 17 2008, 02:01 PM

I think they were always pretty flamboyant and didn't look much different than they do now, except Syn got a stupid hat and started wearing guy-liner. The way I look at them is updated glam-metal, but I only signed on with City of Evil.

Posted by: Paul Coutts Jan 21 2008, 05:46 AM

hahahaha.....guy-liner...not heard that one biggrin.gif

Posted by: JukeboxHero Jan 21 2008, 05:55 AM

I think A7X is a pretty good band. they aren't my favorite but I'd give them a 7.5 out of 10.

Posted by: Tjchep Jan 21 2008, 06:20 AM

Synester Gates, is not a good guitarist by any means, and I don't think if he was in guitar center I would turn around to watch him. There are so many other guys that could do better than him. He just got a lucky break.

I still give him credit though, he doesn't totally destroy the solos with his playing.

Mabye hes just not my cup of tea, because it seems like alot of people like him.

Yeah their first four albums are really the only ones that can be classed as remotely good. They all still bore the pants of me though.
