Death Metal started out with only songs about Death and gore based lyrics. That is how it started out. Yeah it evolves but Arch Enemy are too soft to be classed as Death Metal whatever the case anyway. Modern Death Metal is stuff like Decrepit Birth, Odius Mortem and Necrophagist. All of those bands are FAR heavier than Arch Enemy and therefore however you look at it they aren't death metal. And I still stick with the fact Death Metal was called what it was because of the lyrics. Look at Death's first 3 albums. Every song about Death and Gore. They moved on to more spiritual stuff and that is when people started classing them as a Technical Metal band rather than a Death Metal Band. They progressed.

I don't think saying they aren't death metal is an opinion as it is based on the first meaning of Death Metal but I can't be arsed with this thread anymore as its boring me. If you want to think they are melodic Death metal then go ahead.

Wow.. Well, I agree that Melodic Death MEtal has nothing to do with other forms of death metal, but you don't have to sing about death to be a death metal band. That's just a fact.

And, I clicked the link and watched that video, I had forgotten how horrible Angela Glossow's vocals were, and well. I don't wanna bash her too much or anything, and I know it's a matyter of taste, but I have not heard something worse than that. It is only me or is she getting all that attention since she's a girl?

My opinion: Awful song, awful lyrics, appaling singing

Fact: They aren't Death Metal. They are Death Metal for posers who can't handle the real deal and say they like Death Metal to try and be cool.

Sorry for knowing more about music than you.

I'm not locking this thread ... yet.

Please be civil about this - if people disagree with you that is not an insult, it just means that they don't agree. It is NOT grounds for an argument.

Thank you. People have different views.

Please somebody answer me this though. Does anybody else think the vocals are way too high in the mix on that song?

It's the same mix like in the rest of the album. Maybe what you hear is that the vocals are not dubbed like on previous records.

Arch Enemy are great. 6 Months ago i thought they were just an OK band, but this album blows me away and this is definitely one of my favorite tracks on the album. The amotts rule!

As for the style, i do think this is melodic death as well. Which is a different genre anyway just built from death metal or inspired by? I'm not quite sure which one but yeah that's what i think.

Well, you still have to agree on the fact that they are melodic death metal? Something that has nothing on common with death metal, but still has a similar name (for no apparent reason).

And I think the whole elitist thing is quite silly anyways, even if someone mixes up genres, it's useless to try and prove a point, since there is no ultimate truth when it comes to things like that.

And, I also agree that the vocals are really high in the mix, but I guess it's something you get used to if you listen to it a lot

EDIT: And I really can't find anything about them that makes them strike me as posers.

I like all Melodic (Death) Metal, or whatever you wan't to call it, not here to pick a fight. But I don't like Angelas singing, but that's just me. I do love the music and the solo is great smile.gif

Sorry. I get annoyed with genres as I've done a lot of research in the area over the last 10 to 15 years to find as many decent bands in every genre as I can and buy as many as I can so I can talk to people about decent music.

I'm sorry for saying that to you ok but I just think they are Heavy Metal or a newer evolved version of thrash metal so no need to argue over something little. I'm sorry if I offended or annoyed you.
