So our short wednesday night service at church we just do a couple songs. I was leading the 2nd song and it's in Bb, so I capo 3rd fret and play in G.

Everything was fine in our run through I've played the song for a few years but it was new to the rest of the band.

Service starts 1st song goes well, I slip my capo on quickly and proceed to play the intro to the 2nd song, everything seems fine, 2nd verse rest of the band join in, and I start to hear mistakes and wrong notes from the piano player, I'm thinking to myself come on it's not that hard, yet still they come. Eventually we get to the bridge and all seems ok, in fact I'm thinking that my voice has got lost better as I don't have to push to hit some of the notes.

The song ends and I look over to the piano player just about to give a 'what happened there?' look when I notice my capo on the 2nd fret.

I was completely unaware of the conversation between the pianist and synth player trying to work out the key.

It wouldn't have taken me that long if it was me in a similar situation. I think give me at most 4 bars and I'd know the key and be able to play along.

Never used capo, but a long time ago some beginner musicians, which studied with me, were playing a simple jazz song in a tonalities differed by a semitone by mistake! And they even didn't realize it smile.gif
That was some serious stuff to listen to biggrin.gif
