I would say you definitely press the strings too hard! You have to start developping light touch!

And take it easy with practice this week! Don't push it to serious injury!

Yes, Pavel is right - take it easy. This kind of pain is about toughening up your fingers - you shouldn't be afraid of working through it a little, but obviously stop before you bleed to death and never do something that really hurts.

This is very different from muscular and carpal type aches and pains which you should rest immediately if you experience them - working through those could leave you with some very serious problems as have been discussed in other threads.

Yeah it may happen when you start to practice for long hours each day. I think you should play some easier stuff for a few days. And the cool thing about resting is - when you pick up the guitar again you'll feel an improvement - because all that was accumulating in your mind will nest in your brain and when you start playing same things you did until this day - it will go soooo smooth!! smile.gif

USE SUPERGLUE!!!!! biggrin.gif

Seriously I actually do that. Takes only a minute to get hard on your fingertips and you do not have anymore pains continuing playing.
I found that out when I started playing bass as well... man bass really is a skin killer....

actually you are on to something there. one of the early uses of super glue was in the Vietnam war to quickly seal battle field wounds. I expect they still use it on the battle field. I have a nephew who spent a year as a medic in Iraq, I will have to ask him.

Off the shelf super glue is methyl-2-cyanoacrylate. If possible I would use medically approved super glue
(2-octyl cyanoacrylate or n-butyl-cyanoacrylate). Although the cheap stuff is probably harmless for most people.

you can get dermabond (fda approved) on ebay. it is was me, I would spend the few extra bucks and go with fda approval.

edit: looking further, I see that that sales are subject to regulatory controls, although I am sure you can get it without too much trouble. the off the shelf non medical stuff is probably ok, from quick research I did not see anything alarming. although I would research it a bit more before I used it myself.
