GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ I Traded In My Esp Eclipse Ii, Fender Telecaster And Takamine Acoustic
Posted by: audiopaal May 11 2009, 12:09 AM
Yep!
I let my ESP Eclipse II, Fender Telecaster 60th Anniversary and Takamine TF250SMCSB go..
I never thought I'd ever let any one of these go to be honest
But once every magical year, something extraordinary happens.
You decide to try out a guitar, and the moment you touch it you know..
You just know, that this is the one you've been waiting for your entire life
Everything's right, it feels right, it sounds right, it sustains right, it looks right, it even smells right.
This is what happened to me.
To quote www.guitarplayer.com:
"...a supremely playable instrument that blends power, definition, warmth, and sustain"
*drumroll* I give you the.. *drumroll*
Nik Huber Redwood
It looks a little bit darker in real life, the pictures were taken in the store,
so I find it even more beautiful in normal lighting
I've never been one to think too highly of guitars priced this high.
I've tried a couple of Ken Lawrence Explorers which is in the same pricerange,
but they never tickled my pickle the way this did..
I just couldn't stop thinking about it once I tried it,
so saturday I went back to the store and made a deal with the owner
I'll make you some samples and comparison samples between this and my Gibson.
I warn you though, the Redwood is on another level (sad, but true...)
You can read the www.guitarplayer.com review http://www.guitarplayer.com/article/nik-huber-redwood/Nov-06/24130

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First I'd like to compare this guitar with my Gibson.
My Gibson has Bareknuckle pickups and is a great guitar in my opinion..
Still... The Huber is in it's own class as you'll hear pretty soon
For these two soundclips I just picked a preset on my Marshall JMP-1, a pretty bad one I'm afraid but that doesn't really matter. Both guitars are played thrugh the exact same settings at the exact same volume so you can hear the differences
Gibson:
Gibson.mp3 ( 3.99MB )
: 301
Huber:
Huber.mp3 ( 3.99MB )
: 297
And here are a couple of other soundclips from the Huber. I haven't had the time to dial in my preamp with this guitar, but it sounds pretty good still, but I'll post some better ones at a later time! Here we go:
Slow Pop (With delay and a little reverb):
Huber_Slow_Pop.mp3 ( 2.44MB )
: 256
Rockaroll:
Huber_Rockaroll.mp3 ( 2.52MB )
: 248
Hard rock:
Huber_01.mp3 ( 6.02MB )
: 244
Hope you like some of it although it's not optimal, but I'll try Mic'ing up a tube amp in the near future to show it in all it's glory

Very nice Paal. A friend of mine has a Redwood, played Gretsch guitars for as long as I can remember, he recently found a Huber Redwood here in the States.. Now he swears by it..

Everybody eager for more sometimes, but not everyone needs it
Sure, I want another Huber sometime but it'd be a totally different guitar like his Jr. model or something Custom ordered to my own specs..
But believe me, none of that is needed in while
I'm quite happy with the way things are right now
Gold, gold, gold, muhahaha!!!

Cool looking guitar. Certainly not my style of guitar but it sure is a beauty. Maybe I should trade in everything I own for a Parker Fly Koa which is a steal at £5000

Isn't gold too soft (as metal) to be unstable as a tuning peg or a saddle on that Fly?

I thought the same.. It`s pretty "soft" compared to other metals.. Well I understand reason why some engine parts of McLaren F1 is made of gold, it`s very heat consuming ( if it is correct on english). But here .. probably just for "epicness"
Posted by: Canis May 11 2009, 08:34 PM
Oh yeah.. It seems like you made yourself a great deal here, Pål.. Why have three good guitars when you can have one AWESOME guitar?
A true beauty ^^
Never cared much for Tele-shaped guitars, but this one really works!

Beautiful clean sounds there paal, so much more body and depth than the gibbo, need to hear the grinding marshall-esque tones now though!! Get those 'buckers bouncing!!
Posted by: berko May 13 2009, 07:26 PM
Well, if it rings that beautifully clean... it shall then have it's own realm of sound when cranked on an all-tube!!
If you sent both guitars through the same settings in the first two clips... then I can see what you're talkin' about

Well, Nik Huber used to be a custom builder for PRS and their Head of repairs in Europe I believe, so a high end PRS isn't too far away
It's still better than a high end PRS imo, but an owner of a PRS Private Stock would probably state otherwise, but then he's never tried a Huber Redwood
Oh, and I've actually tried a PRS Private Stock (
), but I still like this better!

Oh man
it's impossible to keep up with your gas!
congrats on the new amp too
The trip was nice, gotmyself 10 bottles of Solo. Celebrated May 17 by drinking a full 1,5 liters. Well, I shared a bit with the kids and they enjoyed the Norwegian Fanta
Norway sure got plenty of road tolls around there, it was just silly at times when every city big enough to have a McDonalds had to have road toll!!!
At one time I managed to end up in the wrong lane, had cars beside and behind me so I was squeezed and just ran an autopass. We'll see how much that will cost me.
We also drove a bit up the E39 towards Stavanger looking for a place to sleep while checking out the place we shoud pick up the 8,5 cubic meters of goods to squeeze into the 8 cbm truck (at least it felt like impossible tetris with real boxes), and I was tempted to drive the extra 200 km to come knock at your door
Ended up in the budget hotel in Kristianstand-C which was quite alright.
Always fun to visit Norway, astonishing nature. but ever so tireing to drive the distance.

Yeah, I know what you mean.. The road tolls are getting silly, there's too many!
Luckily there's not so many here on this side of the country, but whenever we're going to Oslo it's impressive that they've managed to build that many road tolls
Hehe, you should've come! Next time leavy your kids at home and we'll have a guitarfeast
