I have burstbucker pros in my Gibson LPJ and I love them. The guitar gives me a big, warm and dynamic sound. The only bad thing I can think of is that because of the wiring, you cannot split these (to get single coil type sounds).

The guitar feels versatile to me and I have done both soft jazz/blues stuff and rock/metal with it.

I have never tried the Slash Alnico though.

I got mine when I bought the guitar, but after a quick look at Thomann webstore I think it looks like a good price.

I have Seymour Duncan Sh2 and Sh4 on my Les Paul and also my custom Lojo guitar. I love the gain and Eq balance of this pick ups.

I also like Slash models, I tried many guitars with them and sound really tasty to my ears.

I would spend a little more and get pick ups that could be split, in the end you will never regret making your guitar more flexible

^ Yes this is a valid point for sure. There is world out there with fantastic pickups and most can be split.

Hi Laurent!

Personaly i can recomend the following brands:

www.benedettipickups.com
www.crelpickups.com

These are high quality french made (i can see u live in France!) pickups and, the best part, you can really ask for a custom model (tone and looks!). Price is not too high compared to seymour or Bare pups.

i'll take a look

my main issue is about my budget, cause i like to upgrade my €pi les paul studio,, and i have buyed a Gibson, so it cost me a kidney !!

i have look for a lot of, brand new wilkson, tonerider, artec etc.... too cheap and not better than my €pi stock pickups,

i have miss another slahs pickups for 140€, but i do see why have two guitar with the same pickups...

So do these burstbucker pro do the job, and did they match with my play style ? here is the question !

Laurent

http://www.guitarfetish.com/GFS-Guitar-Pickups_c_7.html

I keep reading nice reviews about these pickups but never played them, might help if you're in a budget.

As for pickup selection, its really hard to recommend online, like there are known/famous models but also each pickup sounds different in every guitar...

I personally liked dimarzio's approach on picking the right pickup on their website; http://www.dimarzio.com/pickup-picker notice on step 3 it asks to pick "problem solver" and the options there are really a good way to ask/research when selecting pickups.

regarding pickups, is there a difference between a coil tap and coil split, or is that just the same thing?

i do not search for splitable ones, it's to upgrade my €piphone LP studio. to match a bit my next guitare
cause i'll restart my job a day, maybe during the next years, and i'll use my studio to work at job between 12 and 14h

Have you seen Iron Gear Pickups? They are not expensive but they sound very good. They have a set which is based on a Slash type of tone called the Tesla Shark. Before I replaced the pickups in my LP with seymour '59's I was considering Iron Gear.

Here is a demo of Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro Slash Vs Irongear Tesla Shark
