So my Squier Strat had been laying here for over a year now. I havent even touched it for months since I have a Schecter and a Mexi Strat. Until recently that I decided to bust it out of the rut and customize it. Maybe new p/u's and tuners. But I am wondering if anyone here ever did that to there squiers. today, I was actually looking at strat necks for replacements. Do you guys think its a good idea and a nice investments to customize it?

I always hear that its a waste of money to customise those things cause they will always sound like crap due to the body. But i'm not really familiar with all the tech stuff.

Well in my opinion customizing is no use if you have a crappy guitar. If you go to custom shop and create a custom guitar from a scratch - you'll get a monster axe but customizing cheap guitar is useless from my point of view.
My friend had an RG 370DX - he put an EMG's in it - replaced the bridge with a better one - put new lockers on it - and i tried to play it - it was not bad - but after that i tried JEM which is really expensive guitar and the difference is huge. Better save the money and buy yourself a real strat or whatever you want - don't waste it on customizing.

Take the Squire and the Mexican to a shop and try and wheel and deal for a real strat.

Unfortunately the price of all guitars in Croatia are twice as high as in USA or any other country! So i bought my JEM in Italy!

Well my Mexican Strat was one of those 60th Anniversarry once, really nice sound. Those Tex Mex p/u's sounds really nice and im fairly content with it. Plus those things would be a gem in 30-40 years from now.

yeah the body's on squiers aren't worth customizing... the body is a huge importance because of it's resonance and the sustain that it creates... when i was a lot younger i was interested in customizing my aria pro II fullerton (strat copy) but after playing many other guitars that cost a lot more because of the better body's and everything i decided it wasn't worth it... replacing the neck is going to be expensive and to do a worth while pick up setup in it to get it any where close to sounding even half way decent you're looking at around 250 bucks... plus you need to drop in new pots and rewire the entire thing. in the end the body is whats going to hold it back. the body is the true heart of a guitar.
definitely hold on to your 60th anniversary... even though it's mexican made it's still gonna be worth a good amount decades ahead.

Not ALL Squiers are crap. During one period when they were made in Japan they were actually better than the original USA Fenders from that time. So if it's one from the 80's it could be, not a gold nugget maybe but a darn fine guitar of good USA Fender quality.

good point about the old school strats, but the new squiers are crap.its definately not worth all that money to customize a crappy guitar.it'll also probably mess up the sound, so i definatly wouldnt do it.

thanks everyone for the tip. Im actually looking at ebay for those japanese squiers.
