GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Les Paul Shredders!

Posted by: SeeJay May 3 2014, 09:51 PM

In the world of Jacksons and Music Mans, who was still rocking the Les Pauls in the 80s?

Neal Schon!!!

I mean. . . . it's got a floyd rose which . . . . I'm always on the fence about in les pauls (just look funny), But Neal Rules!

Posted by: Spock May 3 2014, 09:58 PM

I do want one of these - and I'll be DONE!!!

Posted by: klasaine May 3 2014, 10:03 PM

How could we forget about randy!!!

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu May 5 2014, 04:40 PM

In my opinion, Doug is the more refined version of Zakk Wylde smile.gif The same aggressive touch with more brains in the music tongue.gif

And that Les Paul mini looks like the weapon of choice for a very angry toddler biggrin.gif I am a bit at rest now that I know I can have a guitar that can fit a kid biggrin.gif

Posted by: SeeJay May 5 2014, 06:24 PM

A lot of people love Zakk (I mean, I love him too!) but his tone can fatigue my ears. No Rest for the Wicked can really give me an ear ache after rocking it hard.

I think that's why I like Les Paul Shredders like Doug. A lot of dudes rely on 'tricks' and that's fun, but at some point you just need to play the guitar. Crazy whammy dive bombs can only take you so far.

Steve Clark? Maybe not the Shreddiest of Shredders, but he slung that Les Paul LOW and looked cool doing it.

Def Leppard fans?

It'S funny, when I first saw the title i immediately thought about Neal Schon. But besides "shredding" he's a master of great and pure emotional melodies!!!

Now everybody see who was Paul Gilbert's shredding inspiration. :-D

Al Di Meola is still one of the greatest Players on earth!!! Keep in mind here that's almost 40(!!!) years ago! Just unbelievable!!!

Guido! I love Neil Schon's re-orchestrations of famous songs, such as this one:

Al Di Meola is one of my favorite players as well! In fact, I have recently read a very interesting article featuring an interview with the man himself - a little thread I have started here: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=51990

BILLY DUFFY!!! I saw The Cult this year. They played Electric album. He's known for his white falcon, but he rocks those LPs!

Now there is a band I haven't heard mentioned in years! I had no idea they were still together. Good band back in the 90's. smile.gif I still hear "Fire Woman" on the radio from time to time.
How about the man in the bucket for an LP shredder?

Saw this today, made me think of this thread! biggrin.gif

Man, Buckethead drives me crazy. . . . Never been a fan.

But that LP of his has some cool stuff going for it. I like the kill button.

No Bucket? No sweat! smile.gif How about Mr. Joe Bonamassa?

[attachment=37035:ClickHandler.ashx.jpeg]

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu May 7 2014, 01:04 PM

I'll choose Bonamassa and Moore as Gibson players ANY day! biggrin.gif Just check out this song:

Posted by: SeeJay May 7 2014, 02:41 PM

Bonamassa does it right. It's funny to me that he's so popular right now. Love all the Eric Johnson influence he shows. Obviously a very studied player.

He's got a few signature pedals out now. Keep meaning to check them out.

I think he brings this tune to a whole other dimension - I liked the song before, but I definitely like his version best of all!

Posted by: SeeJay May 9 2014, 12:10 AM

Ace Frehley anyone?

Just Came across this video, it's pretty cool.

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu May 9 2014, 09:11 AM

Uh oh, he has that Les Paul with 3 pickups smile.gif And in one video he releases fireworks from the neck of the guitar laugh.gif

Posted by: SeeJay May 10 2014, 12:07 AM

Steve Lukather is known for a few different guitars, but he rocks a Les Paul.

Posted by: bleez May 10 2014, 12:52 PM

This guy cool.gif

LMAO! That kinda freaked me out when I clicked the link laugh.gif awesome!
I know that guy and he is quite often one of the finest guitar players in his house..... not always but quite often smile.gif

Posted by: SeeJay May 12 2014, 12:06 AM

Not that I am a big fan, but Mick Jones of Foreigner always rocked a LP.

But what do I know, I'm just a . . . . Dirty White Boy. . . (see what I did there? rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif )

I'm not a fan of The Cult, but one of my best friends is. He asked me to go to the concert last year, so I did. I must say, respect to Billy Duffy who really played tight and articulate. Although his attitude was a bit 'absent'. But that seems to be normal for Duffy?

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu May 12 2014, 12:09 PM

I've also see The Cult live, in 2012, but frankly they haven't gotten to me in any way smile.gif

Posted by: SeeJay May 12 2014, 04:45 PM

Billy Duffy is a great straight ahead rocker. Showman, maybe not so much, but rocker for sure. Great tone.

I think whats also great about The Cult is they get heavier as their career goes on.

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu May 13 2014, 06:48 AM

For me, The Cult has been that band which played the song in Gone in 60 seconds biggrin.gif A bit superficial, but hey, not my fault that they didn't do better for my ears biggrin.gif

Posted by: SeeJay May 14 2014, 10:00 PM

Oh man, wasn't familiar with that tune. Had to look it up.

There's a lot of better Cult material.

Check out who's on drums though

Is that Matt Sorrum?

I am a bit shocked you didn't know the vid biggrin.gif Not an Angelina fan?

Posted by: Spock May 15 2014, 09:19 AM

I've never been a huge Gary Moore fan, but he can make the guitar sing, especially in this version of I Still Got The Blues for you...

Posted by: SeeJay May 15 2014, 04:08 PM

Yep! he played drums with them for a while after GnR.

Angelina. . . whatever. There's better. rolleyes.gif
