Hi everyone,
I just joined the site, and I'm really looking forward to learning something. I've been practicing a bit on my old acoustic guitar, but I think I'm pretty much on the beginner level
I saw a Guitar and Amps guide on this forum (really good by the way), and it made me wonder.. I would like to move from the acoustic guitar to an electric. Probably something like the stratocaster.
Anyway, do I need to buy a $1000 real strat. or will one of the cheaper copy-models do for a start?
Thanks,
/ Sune
Hi & welcome to GMC, I dont think you need to spend that much on your first guitar, its worth buying something decent, if you like the strats why not look at some of the squier stratocasters, they are great value guitars and a fraction of the cost
Heres a link to Squiers website http://www.squierguitars.com/
Welcome to GMC!!
And yeah, you don't need a very expensive first guitar
Wow...
Instant reply!
Thanks man
Welcome Sune

Welcome to GMC!
Welcome to GMC Sune
As other members said an I agree with it tho,
you don't need to spend that much at the moment,
get something decent enough and latter on you can
easily upgrade it as you upgrade your skills.
Hey Welcome to GMC
Yes +1 on the squire strat purchase.
I bought a second hand Jap Strat and its serving me well had it 10+ years
Welcome Sune !! Glad you could join us. As our members have stated you dont have to buy such an expensive guitar at first !! Dont limit yourself to just Stratocasters, take a look at the lower end Ibanez RG super strats and also the Cort X-6 and X-11. These will last you right into intermediate level and you can upgrade them too! Also cheap to buy.
All the best !
Welcome! Have fun here and good luck with the first guitar
Welcome to the site. I agree with everyone about the guitar. You don't need to spend a ot of dough on a decent first guitar. My first electric is one I bought used on e-bay for $250 w/case. It was an Ibanez AS-73 whch is a semi-hollow body. Just don't get stuck on a certain model or style. I wanted to get the Epiphone DOT ES-335 but I liked the sound of the Ibanez better. It also felt better in my hands. Try a few different guitars out and choose the one that works best for you and that you like the sound of. Also try and play it on the same amp you use or one similar so that you don't get disappointed when you get home and the guitar doesn't sound right to you any more. I just bought my second electric guitar for $550. An Ibanez SZ520QM. I tried out a bunch in my price range and chose the one that was best for me.
Welcome to GMC!
I agree with Matt, go for a Squier or a RG.
Welcome to GMC
Welcome to GMC !!!! well, my first guitar was used, but I needed to change it a year after I had bought it
Welcome! My first guitar was a Fender Strat and it's good! But Squiers are basically the same but much cheaper.
Welcome. Some of the best fun being a guitarist is deciding on your next guitar purchase. The quality found in lower to mid priced guitars these days is light years better than it used to be. Play a bunch of models and you will find one that fits your taste. Your first guitar is like your first kiss. It may not be the best quality but you will never forget it. Have fun.
Welcome man! My first guitar was a Squier and i can tell you that it is a really good guitar if you're starting out! And like muris said, upgrade the guitar when you upgrade your skills
Welcome to GMC man !!! You don't need a expensive guitar to start playing electric..I recommend you trying out some of Peavey guitars also, they offer a good value for the money...Just make sure you buy a decent guitar which is comfortable for you to play (nice string action(hight of strings from the fretboard) I find very important and being able to do setup too)...Go on and make a topic in a "Gear" forum and tell us what guitars are available at your local stores (and that you are interested about) so we can help you even more Cheers ..
Welcome to the GMC family man. Keep rockin'
I would recommend that you buy a mexican strat, a decent amp, 2 sets of strings, 2 cables, one strap, a tuner\metronome, and one pedal for starters
Welcome to GMC Sune .
Cheers,
Tony
