Hello GMC

I have a POD X3 and a few computers. I have now started connecting it to the computer, to my MAC. I can record myself with the decent webcam, but the sound? As it is now i have to monitors producing the sound, and the computer microphone capturing it. Doesnt sound too good. So how do I record in the computer + record myself with the webcam?

Connect the POD to the computer by USB. Open a DAW (like Cubase), and go to your DAWs preferences and put the POD as the audiocontroller, or at least as the input. Make a track, and arm it for recording.
Open a webcam video recording software. Click record. Click record in DAW. Afterwards you will have 2 files, one audio and one video. Open a video editing software, like Windows Movie Maker. Synchronize the two files.

Anything more than that is very difficult without knowing what DAW you are using. Good luck smile.gif

You could always use QUICKTIME to record audio from one source and video from another. Are you running OSX 10.6? If so, just launch quicktime and click the little triangle pointing down to the right of the red record dot. You can pick your camera and your pod as a sound source. That way you can record a quicktime file with video from your web cam and audio from your pod smile.gif

See jpg attached. Hope this helps wink.gif Attached Image

If you are using and earlier version of OS X, and quicktime 7, then you need to get QUICKTIME PRO ($30 on apple site) and you can do the same thing by changing the inputs under PREFERENCES inside quicktime.

Hope this helps wink.gif

You should use recording software. Download "Reaper" - it's free.

Inside Reaper open two audio tracks.

- One one track put backing track
- On the other track record your guitar (you might wanna adjust the inputs on that track so that the signal from POD is being sent there)

When you record those two, then use some video app software to replace the audio from webcam video with audio from Reaper.

Let us know how it went, and if you have questions along the way, please post here so we can help! smile.gif

Ivan has a great point with REAPER. It's a great way to go and free to download smile.gif Also, you can multi track. If you just use quicktime, you have all your audio (solo/backing) cooked in to one track so you can't pull out the solo to let someone mix it if it's a collab.

If you are just doing quick and dirty vids of yourself playing, quicktime is fine, but if you working a collab or anything like that REAPER is a much better option.

I also use reaper to record the sound file, using one track for my guitar recording and another for the backing track. That way you can obtain an mp3 file with the sound of both the backing & your guitar over it.

At the same time you should record the video, with no sound.

Then put together the video and the sound with something like movie maker (free) or Vegas.

Well I went with the idea from the American, using Quicktime. Worked out well, the sound comes from pod and video from webcam. BUT THE BACKING TRACK? How do i get the backing track to sound? When i start it it goes out through the mac speakers, and not in the recording itself ???

Im gonna use a backing track here from GMC which cant be downloaded

If you don't have an audio file with the backing track, you have to record one yourself. When you have this as an audio track, paste it into a track next to the lead part you're playing.

Make sure you arm the track so that it records onto the track. In Reaper it's the button that reads "ar".

Well on my PC, the backing track sounds with the POD, all the sound togheter on coumpter, so using quicktime and Webcam there should do it right?

So can I change this in my mac? How do I make the POD sound come out of the speakers + the audio i play on the coomputer? so i can put on the BT and play and pod and both record? This should be possible?

Mate,

Download of backing tracks is possible, look for the small download icon, just right to the backing track.

You can use mic for recording, but I recommend reaper because sooner or later you will have to start with it, and it's good to start now.

Let us know if we can help! smile.gif

When inside a program, open video track, and replace audio track of the video track with the audio track you want (guitar+backing).

So im just going to record myself with webcam playing, not having any sound on, so i just get a video. Then im going to create and audio track containing backing track and the guitar playing and place it into the video? Wont it be hard to sync?
