GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Harmonizer Pedal

Posted by: Keilnoth May 12 2010, 10:38 AM

I have heard the Boss HR-2 is very good but got discontinued in '99 and replaced by the PS-5 which seems to be not that good.

Do you know any good harmonizer pedals that you would recommend ?

Thanks

I've experienced perfect tracking from exactly two pedals that might do what you're asking. One of them is so old I can't understand how it worked so well; maybe my memory is bad.

1. digitech red whammy, whatever its real model name/number.
2. zoom 505-II

I still have that crappy little barely-editable zoom pedal. The thing was cheap, even brand new, and yet its harmonizer presets were absolutely perfect and transparent pitch tracking. It was years before I realized that this was such a great feature, I never thought about the tracking at all because it was that good. I cannot say if zoom's other pedals still work this well.

Digitech Whammy 4 has a lot of harmonizing options.

I'd second Rob's recommendation of the Eventide. I use the Eclipse and the Pitch Factor borrows from it and the H3000, both of which are arguably the industry standards for pro Harmonisers. Not cheap but probably the best quality you will get.

Digitech whammy is the best from what I know

+1 on the DigiTech Whammy

Digitech whammy seems like an interesting option. Maybe you can track on ebay some of discontinued (vintage) pedals like that boss you mentioned that you like...?

To be honest, I am more convinced by the POG2. But it's pretty expensive... smile.gif
The sound checks on Youtube look nice and interesting.

Well, not even talking about the Eventide or the HOG. They are 600$... man, that would hurt my bank account for sure ! But they certainly sound very good. Even though I don't really need all those effects they do. I am not really looking for a complete multi-effect pedal but a simple harmonizer.

Will wait a bit 'til I get one of those and will go in a shop to try some of them.

If you want top notch, you won't go wrong with Eventide. I wouldn't count too much on POG and EHX in general. They are good, but their pedals usually suffer from "child diseases"

MM where does that info come from ? Most of the guys I met in Boston that play 100+ gigs a year that use a Q-tron or Pog are super happy with it and never had any problems.

It comes from me. I personally do not like EHX, although I do find the brand interesting. I've tried numerous EHX effects, had Stereo Memory Man, and currently use MicroQ-Tron, and Stereo Electric Misstress. Although they are good, I would say they sound too digital for my taste. I don't think other people would think the same tho.
