Cool improvisation smile.gif
In my opinion, you always do your improvisations way too short, it suddenly just cuts and it is over. I would like to see a longer improvisation about 2:30 minutes or something like that. Then it's also easier to give you some advice.
The only thing I can say that you should pay a little attention on your legato, it looks/sounds a little like your pinky isn't strong enough to keep the volume the same as the other fingers, I hope you know what I mean.
But that could also be my ears as I'm already tired tongue.gif

Keep the good work up.

Yeah, well this one I just used a drum track from Addictive drums and threw some rhythm over it, and since the drums didn't have much variation, It was kind of hard to take the track to be in a song like structure. (I didn't want to spend much time on it) smile.gif But, I'll soon, be making some real tracks that I can improvise on a bit better. And It will actually have a start-middle-end, so it's not so sudden as you said.

But I've just started to really break down my legato and fix all the stuff out of it. Because I'm still having some trouble with it. So that you for point that out. smile.gif

As i already told you before i think you are so far ahead of the curve with your note choice, vibrato, and fret touch.

The biggest problem i hear with your playing in general is timing issues. If you took the time to use all the tools you already have and put some hard work on your timing....man!! then you would be so awesome dude.

You really need to pay attention to what the track is doing rhythm wise. I think maybe right now you are so focused on all your other tools that you are forgetting to listen for your timing cues.

TJ, it is a great track, very nice tone and phrasing is decent too. Because I like the way you play, I will criticize you even more now biggrin.gif

That first index finger vibrato goes up and down and not circular, and that is not the way to do it. You do vibrato good with index when bending downwards, so upwards bending must be practiced in order to achieve circular motion. Also bending is weak, must work on technique there too. Practice bends ONLY upwards with your index finger - I know they are hard, but the more you do it, the more stable it will become of course.

You seem to have memorized some positions of the minor scale and use it, but I didn't see that you play all over the neck. So the next thing you practice is all the positions in minor scales, using 3-per-string patterns for starters.

THat little legato slide is good, but if you wanna full control, you must try to use a lot of sliding legato exercises. Check my lesson here for some ideas. This way you will connect the whole fretboard.

Also next time you record, try different progression. I know VI-IV is cool, but go try to record a 3 chords combination an work on adding accents on chord changes instead of going through bunch of licks. If you play for a long time this stuff, it will get you knowhere, you're just jamming until you run out of licks, so the main goal is to break out of licks, and work on spotting the chords and using the chordal notes in relative to the backing harmony.

I agree, I noticed my timing Issues a while back, but never had the chance to fix my timing. But how would I go about Improving my general timing? I think you are right though. When I was recording, I had the rhythm track so low that I could barely hear it, I knew what the chords were but quickly forgot what chord I was on.

What do you mean by Circular, I as in doing violin like vibrato.. with rock vibrato? I always accosiated circular vibrato with Steve vai.

But what's up with my bends, I got kind of confused on that bit.

But yeah, I never noticed that with my index finger vibrato that I only bend down, will have to work on that bit.

I know all the positions on the minors scales pretty well though, mabye I just didnt utilise all the positions to their full advantage?

And about the rhythm, yeah it was simple, but I don't really like distorted rhythm very much anyways, so I don't have many Heavy rhythms under my belt at the moment.

And finnally yes, I defiantly do need to work on recognizing the chords and then playing chordal notes more often.
