So I spend a good deal of time listening to music, got good headphones monitors and a sub.
I looked at sound isolation a bit and saw Mopads long ago,but never added them to my set up. All that cash I put in and can't believe I left a small thing out like this. When I added them there is a very big difference, more so at higher volumes.
So if any of you using monitors and don't have these, it is really 30 bucks well spent. I'm sure you can even get foam and make them yourself.

That is a neat looking setup. My desk looks similar as I'm also using iMac as my base. Out of all the purchases, I think the one that I delayed for the longest was getting the studio monitors setup, and it turned out it was one of the best gear purchases I've ever made. I must say that I'm also guilty of not having pads under my monitors, they are just sitting on a desk. What are the perceived differences in sound between speakers on desk and when using pads? I'm really tempted now.

Isolation stands are big in high end Hi Fi setups and well worth the investment. The audiophiles isolate everything from front end to speakers wink.gif
Having said that, I don't have pads under my monitors but I will when I upgrade to proper studio monitors in the new year tongue.gif

I was playing the other day, recording my practice session. I was using a guitar processor for direct recording, going from headphones to my studio monitors back and forth over and over. When using headphones, and tweaking on my processor, I would have moments where my ears would say "ohhhh that's a good tone", so then I would play the same thing from through my monitors and would be like, that doesn't sound good at all, so tweak the processor again and and repeat this over and over, asking myself what the hell. So I ran out and got pads to see if this would make my ears happy for this reason.

Without pads the sound resonates in my long wood desk creating lower frequencies and ratteling things on my desk, as for the sub when it sat on the floor without the aurelx It was so muddy it sounded terrible, no matter how a adjusted it and where I put it. I think you can get away without pads under your monitors, but for 30 bucks it's a great way to improve your rooms sound, and if your using subs I think something should be under the sub or it sounds like shit.

I have a very large desk and like my monitors on it. I looked at stands but for my set up pads were a easy cheap solution. But stands would work well to I assume.

I had my monitors on stands as well for quite a while. Two pair on stands actually. Finally, I realized the two pair sounded very close and got rid of one pair. Kept the KRK and moved them on to my desk on adjustable pads. The one's Im using are tilt adjustable so you can angle the speaker toward your ears. They do a great job of isolating the speakers from the desk and they are cheap. About $35 U.S. on ebay. They are called

Yes, I'm also in your situation. I wouldn't like or have room to fit monitor stands around my desk.
This way my monitors are also very close to me and I can reach out and turn them on and off easily.

Thanks guys for info on the pads, when looking at it my monitors do feel to be positioned a little bit low in relation to my head and ears. Hope I'll get one of the pads in the future, I love gadgets by the way smile.gif
