Hello!

I'm considering a pair of new Humbuckers for my Epi Les Paul guitar. The ones I've heard and liked are APH-1 and Jazz SH-2 for Neck position. For the bridge position, I don't really know any good, Maybe the Duncan SH-6?

These are all Seymour Duncan pickups. Do U guys have any recommendations for a Les Paul type guitar. I play mostly Hard rock and Metal, like Guns N Roses, Metallica Pantera, but also classic rock and blues, I guess, for the bridge position, I'm looking for a pickup with a kinda Bluesy sound, but a lot more agression and output, kinda laugh.gif

Overwhelm me with good pickups!!

EMG's will get you that Zakk Wylde sound and are pretty standard. Dimarzio developed an active pick up these days that might be worth looking at.

You know it!
Actually you just named off the perfect set-up in my opinion Xuestor. smile.gif I curently have the sh-6 duncan distortion humbucker and let me say it's the best humbucker i have used for distortion peroid.I have had the sh-13 dimebucker,sh-12 screamon deamon along with the invader and the sh-6 is by far my favorite. You stated that you would like a sh-2 jazz in the neck position, thats my dream laugh.gif .This would make an absolute perfect combination as sh-6 is perfect for those leads and distortion and the sh-2 will balance this with a fat tone along with increditable smooth clean tone.

I will have to have my strat custom worked on again to get the sh-2 in my guitar as its h/s/s and was origianlly s/s/s,i had the pickguard cut to fit the sh-6 in bridge position and they did a pefect job.Now i will just have to have this done once again for the neck.I definatly plan to get one as soon as i can .I promise you if you set your guitar up this way you wont be dissapointed or regret it.

As i always say biggrin.gif check out Ebay for your humbuckers cause you can save a ton of money getting them from there used or even new most times.Any other questions feel free to ask.

What Do you think of the APH-1? I have played it a little, only through a tube amp though (I have a Solid State) and it sounds sweet, especially in neck. It's a little more neutral, and lets the amp deliver the distortion. I'm having a hard time deciding smile.gif

How about mixing different brands of pickups? can I match them as I please, or it that just a BAD thought?

I havent heard the APH-1 before, but if it was me i would be going with the sh-2 for sure.As far as mixing the brands, sure you could do that.Just make sure you know exactly what the pickup does and what its going to sound like. smile.gif

Thanks for your input! It's leaning towards sh-6 + sh-2. It seems like a great combo. Seymour Duncan seems like the right choice. I've got Dimarzios in my JEM that are great pickups, but I've got a feeling that the Seymours fits better than dimarzios in a Les Paul.

I've got a DiMarzio Super Distortion in my LP, bridge position. It's hard rock all the way and it's a classic. Ace Frehley, Randy Rhoads, Adrian Smith, Paul Gilbert.
Should work great with a PAF Pro in the neck.

I've got my old bridge pu in the neck position now but eventually I will put a PAF Pro there for a more matching pair.

I totally agree. I have a Les Paul copy (SX) brand, and put a diMarzio PAF in the neck, and a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge. I could not be more happy with the putput and sound. I also hear the Dimarzio FRED humbuckers are great too. They get you a super clean toone, and also a great "dirty" tone when used with OD/distortion.
Hope this helps a bit.

Thats the exact set-up I have in my Schecter C-1 Stealth and I have to say it does sound really nice. I use this gutiar for down-tuning to D and the SD Distortion pickup sounds really nice through my 5150.

I'm more familiar with the Gibson pickups, and they have some nice ones. Personally I love the burstbucker pros, they're pricy though. The dirty fingers are probably one of the hottest pickups around, but very versatile if you get a push/pull tone knob. The Demarzio suggestions sound good though I think.
Another pickup that has been getting some attention is the Mark Tremonti pickup from PRS, people seem to be raving about it on other forums, alot of people are putting them in the Schecters and other guitars to replace lower end pickups.

The best pickups bar none are Bare Knuckle pickups made over here in the UK. I have a Bare-Knuckle Warpig in my Washburn Custom Shop Idol and the sound from it is probably the most responsive and resonant pickup I have ever heard. It beats the crap out of the Seymour Duncan Custom Custom that was installed there as stock.
Bare Knuckle pickups ain't cheap but the difference is astounding.
