GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Anyone Into Taking Photos?

Posted by: Caelumamittendum Mar 17 2021, 02:44 AM

Anyone else do a bit of photographying?

I went through some old files and thought I'd share these photos I took throughout the years with my DSLR camera. I don't take pictures often anymore, but it has made me want to do a bit more photographying again!

Those are some nice and interesting shots. I don't do much more than take pictures with my phone.

I used to, I still have my Sony RX100, best camera I've ever had and fits in a side pocket of combats.

Yeah, I've SLRs and DSLRs and Micro 4/3 but in the end got fed up with the luggage. This little beauty suits me down to the ground but it ain't cheap for a compact but I do think it's worth the money for most people, goes to F1.8 and has P.A.S.M and can take RAW.

Mine is quite dented, it's had a hard life.

I've been considering getting a new camera, both for shooting pictures and video, and I like the picture/video quality of the DSLRs the most, I think, but I've looked at handycams, webcams and action cams too. That's me going slightly off topic here of course. The compact camera looks nice, but as you say, not cheap. I don't mind taking my DSLR around with me. I don't go that many places that far or places where I need to carry a lot around.

It took me the best part of two weeks in Cyprus to get these two pictures, there were about 400 where the fly did its thing and flew as I pressed the shutter. These are scanned from prints, it was only a 2MP Canon compact but they aren't bad.

Whoa, that is way cool! I have never seen a blood red dragonfly like that. I have a dragonfly closeup somewhere too but the colors are very different. Still pretty cool if you like dragonflies though.

The dragonflies here are very similar to that one, maybe even the same, and they can vary with the blue and green and almost yellow colors sometimes. I took these shots years ago. They are always hanging out on my deck in the summer.

Two more from a couple of years back that I just came across.

I like the 2nd shot the most. Is that some kind of fungus?

Here are some visitors at my bird feeders this winter.

Nice shots! I hope to be able to catch some more animals on photos again soon.

It's some kind of fungus, yes. Maybe white toothed tree fungus, from what I can find on Google.

Thanks! I'll check it out. The problem seems to be that the resolution of my pictures often isn't high enough. My camera isn't THAT great in and off itself and after cropping and editing a bit I end up with a somewhat small picture and not one in very high resolution unfortunately.

More interesting shots, Ben. I wonder what the function of the apparatus on the back of the trailer is for. It appears to be for pulling something onto or off of the trailer. Any idea?
Also, it looks like you are well into spring there.๐Ÿ˜Ž

We still have a lot of dead leaves on the ground from Fall and Winter, and I honestly don't remember it being like this. Temperatures fluctuate wildly and maybe a week ago we had some snow, and some days we have night frost and then during the day it will get to about 8C/45F. Most we've had so far this year was 14C/57F, I think. Then just a few days later we had snow again. laugh.gif

Sounds like winter is trying to hang on over there. It's similar here. Many long standing low temperature records for this month have been shattered. Finally, this week we have moved into a freeze/thaw situation where we have had high 40's F Temps during the day and refreezing some nights. Our highest temp so far have been about 52F. There is still plenty of snow and ice to melt as the spring breakup has only just begun.
Here are a few more shots from my phone.
Introducing Bigfoot the cat.

Taken from our house looking SE.

A falconer and his Red Tailed Hawk. They have been hunting rabbits down the road that comes into our place. Very interesting and nice guy.

Honestly, Denmark is rather flat and "boring" terrain wise. Of course Scandinavia as a whole is more interesting, especially Norway. Fyn, where I live, is just sort of flat land with fields, some forests and so.

Talk about flat, I live in Florida!! smile.gif It's just one big flat surface with water on either side. The good news is we have some nice beaches smile.gif Sure don't have any mountains or such. We do have theme parks though smile.gif

I seeded some flowers in some big flower pots some time ago. First time I've ever tried doing so. They were planted a bit too close, but whatever, some will survive.

I now have some bumblebee friends flying around. Often around 10 or so in the 5 flower pots I have.

First two shots are just from my phone. Last three from my DSLR.

Yeah, I think that's my problem. Chopping, dicing etc. and cooking in general doesn't interest me at all, and I find it more frustrating than therapeutic unfortunately. Also less motivational as I've just been cooking for myself for 10+ years most days of the year, apart from maybe 2 or 3. So it's difficult to find the motivation and not just go for the easy option of ordering something or buying a meal that just goes into the microwave smile.gif

Well, I can't view them all since I don't have an Instagram account but I really like the shots from The Mumbles. Especially the 1st shot because of the contrast of colors between the blue sky and green water. I also really liked the harbor shots and that stone beach is really cool looking with the little stacks of stones here and there. I thought they were all really nice shots of the ones that I could view anyway.

More nice and interesting shots, Ben. Looking at the shot of the creek bed. Those numerous big leaf plants look similar to some plants we have here in AK in the same types of areas, along creeks and also on lower parts of mountain terrain where there is dense foliage. We call them "Devil's Clubs" and the stalks and leaves are extremely thorny and not much fun to trudge through. Are those thorny as well?

I think they're just "Petasites hybridus" that haven't blossomed yet. I don't recall them as having thorns smile.gif

Ah ok. I was thinking they were probably something other than the Devil's club but looked very similar so I figured I would ask. Thanks! You would know if they were if you ever walked through a patch of them. Yeow! blink.gif
