OK so here is my story! smile.gif
I liked those guitars and wanted to try them out! Since my contract with Tom Anderson is almost done and I am not sure if I want to extend it I am trying to shop around and look for other companies
It was late yesterday and I have decided to send an email to the guy and see if he can offer any endorsement policies I should have asked my manager to do that so it will be for him to deal with! smile.gif
It is a basic letter that has all the information and links
Since I did it myself I got a reply and that's what I got:

"Hi Alex,
Thanks for the interest in my guitars. I don't know if your aware of this but guys who are into metal hate pop music. The reason we hate it is that it is the soundtrack to the society that metal rebels against. Rampant commercialism of the human soul, vapid obsession with the self, almost non existant attention spans (who's No1 this week?), detestable senses of entitlement ("I wanna be a billionaire, sooo freakin' bad.." Bruno Mars). The list goes on. Most pop music that airs these days, typically documents human behaviours that occur at the end of a civilisation.
Let us for a minute juxtapose these multitudes of sin with the entirely more socially concerned and responsible attitudes that inspire metal musicians. Metal sees the bigger picture. We see a story of mankind. We see the journey to modern thought. We see history, and the progression of ideas and actions. We see the failure of the human ego when granted power. We see foolish, wise, brave, cowardly, strong and weak people. The main thrust of metals philosophical message is that there is a possibility that the world could end as mankind continues to wail on towards its own self made destruction. For someone born behind the iron curtain Alex, I thought these themes would really resonate with you. But apparently you would rather work with Britney Spears. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I would love to hear that I am wrong about you because then I would know that one more extra person is as concerned for mankind as I am. But, as things stand, I cannot endorse you. I cannot even sell you a guitar.

Dylan

"But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."

Corinthians 12:9-10"

I would like to hear your thoughts before I will let you know mine smile.gif

Wow. Just... wow.

Do you think he uses an email template for people he rejects and just changes the name here and there (and added a bit about the Iron Curtain) or do you think he devoted the time to that truly unique email ?? ohmy.gif

Hmmm... interesting. And very true Alex. I as a BIG metalhead, HATE pop music, and I would never want to see a Pop guitarist, especially if he plays with someone like Lady Gaga, Britney Spears or... most of all, Justin Be*ber on the endorsement roster of a company like, Jackson, or ESP, or BC Rich, if you know what I mean. Those people don't belong their, its just not where they belong. sad.gif No hard feelings, but I really like that he wants to keep it Metal, for the Metalheads. I mean, imagine, Gaga's guitarist playing a Jackson Soloist tongue.gif No, never feels right. Metal and Pop don't feel right together to me. That's my views, once again, no hard feelings mate smile.gif

So, I think it was OK for Dylan to do that, because you play pop sadly. He is making guitars for metal !!! I don't think a pop guitarist goes to bend on the 24th fret, and then plays with the whammy bar laugh.gif

That's my views, now, I want to hear yours my friend smile.gif

I can totally understand a metal lover having hatred and frustration towards pop music as it can often feel like the commercial music that's out there is making it harder for the metal guys.. however, on calm reflection (a lot of these guys need to chill) the blame can never be laid at the feet of other artists and creators.. they're just using the universal flow of creation and making it work, even if we don't like the sound of it.

It's up to everyone to do the same for themselves.

Honestly, people should be allowed to play whatever instrument they like regardless of genre. Not only that but I think if more people use Jacksons, Deans, Ibanez then it can only be a good thing as those companies stay in business.

I read all through his site when I first found it and he is a serious, hard core, Metal head and it goes beyond music preference and into philosophy for him. I can appreciate strong convictions but I am a bit shocked that he didn't even want to sell you a guitar?

It's his shop, so it's up to him who he sells to but by the same token, it's up to every musician what they want to play. I can respect his disdain for commercialism, very Metal, but I wish he was a bit more open about folks rights to play anything they like.

I personally didn't like his attitude toward Alex. The guy should be proud to at least sell Alex a guitar. Who knows? Alex might be able to reinvent pop music with a metal guitar! Think of the different tonality of the wood. Oh well...the guitars are still beautiful.

I wish there was more of a sense of community / support between all genres to be honest. To make music is a struggle. I don't think the type of music one makes or plays should be used to demean them. If I wanted to be a Rap / Hip Hop guy, if that did it for me, I"d go do it. I don't think prejudice has a place in something as important as music. Sadly some of my fellow Metal Heads sometimes (not all the time) can be a bit closed and rigid.

This reminds me something that happended here last year.. there was a "pop" band of boys that always dressed with La coste´s Tshirts (you know, the one of the cocodrille). the thing is that the "music" this kids did were listened only by the poorest part of the society. So the kids that followed this band started to wear lacoste tshirts and the people that always used lacoste clothes (richer part of the society) stopped buying it because they didn´t want to be confused with this new users. Lacoste sales went down abruptely as you may imagine!
In a desperate way to recover the "prestige" of the brand, La coste offered 1 millon dollars to each member if they stopped using lacoste clothes, but the kids refused the offer arguing that they dresses as they wanted.
Fourtunately for Lacoste, this band is loosing popularity, but it was a funny moment indeed biggrin.gif

Thank you! I feel the same way! It is not like I am head over heels for his guitars I have Tom Anderson endorsement but wanted to try something new! It doesn't really matter what kind of music do you play! He is just very mad at musicians who make money in pop music! Maybe it was his childhood dream and he got turned down! Who knows!

Well you are talking about this band and about Lacoste it is an advertising for Lacoste a big one! The problem wasn't because of the band wearing it! The problem was with stuck up rich people who didn't want to be mixed with a poor community!! Which is messed up!
There is nothing wrong with pop music! POP means popular and I think it is wrong to be so against it!!

Yes, yes, I have hatred and frustration towards pop laugh.gif But, it's more than that. You see, most of the pop musicians these days RARELY write their own music, we know that, right ? They just hit the studios and record as they are told by the producers and composers. What's the point if you don't have creativity and talent ? huh.gif The metal guys, obviously need more attention and more praise for their work. They write and arrange 98% of the music themselves unlike pop guys and gals. I make my brother listen to Megadeth's Mechanix and he says it sucks, without even bothering to think about the talent involved for just one second. He never think and says "Wow, how could these folks play and record so FAST ?" or "How is that guy playing guitar so fast and singing at the same time ?", instead, he says, too fast dry.gif It sucks.

My point is, there should be talent and creativity involved. I don't hate all pop artists, I like Michael Jackson, had a whopping Vocal Range and was really talented.

FIrst of all when we are coming to the studio most of the time we have no idea what would happen and you have to figure out the parts and make them work producers will give you an idea but it is your job to make it work!
Trust me I have been doing it for many many years and I can assure you that it is very hard to play a simple part and just find the right groove!
Music wise it is all up to your taste! But any style is hard if you are doing a professional job!
Also I have a question let's say you got an offer to play with lets say Paul McCartney and will be making a million dollars a year salary plus 25K per show and about $900 in hour for any recording you do... I know his drummer very well and he makes about 3 million a year would you turn this gig down? And say "No I am a metal head!" Paul McCartney is a pop music and the Beatles is a pop band!
I don't think you would! So than it is not about style it is about the artist! smile.gif

Now about writing your own music...
You are wrong here as well! All studio musicians I know writing their own music! And releasing CD's, going on tours and doing clinics! All of them! They are doing absolutely different styles! Like a very good friend of mine an ex guitar player of Pink Rafael Moreira writing his own music and even singing in his own band! My girlfriends dad is playing bass for Adam Sandler does all the recordings plus his own compositions for movies, Abe Laboriel jr. the drummer for Paul McCartney has a few side projects and actually playing very often at the baked potato with his dad and a hired musicians like Michael Landau and Mike Stern, Even drummer for Red Hot Chili Peppers has his own funk project called "Chickenfoot" Very cool jam band!
Tom Morello has his instrumental project even John 5 from Merlin Manson is playing solo country music!!!
Zakk Wylde and many others! Chris Poland ex guitar player from Megadeth a very good friend of mine is doing a solo fusion project called OHM!
TRUST ME EVERY STUDIO MUSICIAN HAS A SOLO PROJECT AND WRITING HIS OWN MUSIC!!!
Most of them are not that famous that's why you haven't heard about any of their projects!

Yes, exactly, I know what you mean Alex, but, those guys aren't getting the attention, the fame and more importantly, the money they deserve. sad.gif And I really hate that.

The bottomline is - Singer steals all the glory :| This is extremely sad sad.gif Even though I'll try to sing in a band while playing guitar, but I would try my best that the bassist and drummer get a lot of attention, even more than me biggrin.gif I hope you know what I mean smile.gif

Exactly my thoughts as well.

not everyone who plays 'pop' music is the spawn of evil, they are not ALL talentless money whores placed in a prominent position to churn out cash...... they are not all Beyones, beibers etc.
Theres no need to question a persons integrity because the music they happen to play professionally is not as heavy as the music you want your product to represent. I imagine you dont last 5 minutes in LA as a session musician without the highest level of talent, creativity and knowledge.

If hetfield had one of these guitars would he not be allowed to use it when he plays Bob Segar covers huh.gif

Thanks for this Alex, I can take a guitar company off my list of guitars to try.

It seems rather pretentious to me.

He must be happy keeping this company very small and niche with an attitude like that.

Pop music has some great musicians, songwriter and producer in it's industry (including you Alex)

I'll guess we'll just have to sit back and see how his company progresses or doesn't

Anyway Alex, look towards Suhr or maybe another new cool company like Luxxtone for your next endorsement.

The way I see it is that I think everyone should be allowed to do what they want, however they want really. I think it's ok for any craftsman/businessman to have preferences over how he does business. That's their right and I have to respect anyone with such conviction.

On the other hand, you have to give the same respect to anyone. I don't think there's anything wrong with pop guys playing 'metal' guitars etc.. what about all the metal guys who play Strats ? Let's not forget that the first time the UK saw a Strat it was being played by Hank Marvin in the Shadows ! tongue.gif

I've heard some of Chris Polands stuff from OHM and it's quite good. He is really an killer player all around. His flexibility and range of style/tone is really impressive. He brought his Jazz chops to Thrash Metal in Megadeth and helped redefine the Metal approach to lead guitar.

I didn't know you knew him! You've got some pretty spiff friends smile.gif I wonder if we could get him on Staff as well?
