Posted by: 29a Apr 13 2009, 05:34 PM

I can play the intro, but I didn't bother about the rest so far. rolleyes.gif But jup, I'm interested.

I am in on lead or rythm guitar but I am not sure I can figure out how to use the direct recording out of my Marshall

Posted by: superize Apr 13 2009, 06:51 PM

I have never tried to play it but i am interested

Posted by: Outlaw2112 Apr 14 2009, 01:16 PM

Im working with jer on this one... he made a backing for it and ill get it posted over here soon

So heres who we have on this one

Outlaw2112
Jer
Alex
29a
ZakkWylde
supersize

So we should have 3 doing solos and 3 doing riffs

Jer wants to do rhythm

Zakk wants to do solos

Im cool with whatever...

post what you want to do in this song

Posted by: 29a Apr 14 2009, 08:14 PM

I'll do riffs too. I'd mess up the solos horribly smile.gif

Posted by: jer Apr 14 2009, 11:40 PM

 S_D.mp3 ( 13.56MB ) : 296

Start playing after the 4 ct.

I didn't write this backing. I found midi info for the drums and bass.

Some parts don't sound quite right to me but it will suffice.

If anyone has a better one it wont offend me if you suggest we use it instead.

Does anyone have any feelings on how to divvy up the parts?

looks like its 6:57, so we can split that up by 3... I gotta listen to the song and get the times right when everyone
will start and stop

Posted by: superize Apr 15 2009, 06:36 PM

I want to do rythm

Posted by: jer Apr 15 2009, 06:42 PM

Thats 3 of us for rhythm.

How about this.

The fast part in the middle that starts after the drum break and goes till the intro riff starts back up. I HATE that part.

Why dont Superize and 29a handle that. One right, One left.

I'll do the intro up til that part with 29a and after that part thru the end with superize.

So there will be 2 rhythm guitar players at all times.

Does that work for you guys?

Posted by: Alex Lewis Apr 15 2009, 10:56 PM

Ill give one of the solos a bash no high expectations though!

Right now I can only play the first minute... (at least I hope I can still play it tongue.gif). I'm pretty slow at learning songs so I'm not sure how much more I can do for you guys, sorry unsure.gif .

Oh and one more problem, I overlaid the backing track with the actual song, and they don't match up at all. mellow.gif

Anyway, I'll do the first minute during the next week and if possible some more. Is this ok for you guys?

Regarding the backing track, I've got a guitar pro file that includes drums and bass so may be we could use that instead. I think it would be easier to pull it of with the GP file at least for a n00b like me wink.gif . It's just an idea though.

Jonas

Posted by: jer Apr 17 2009, 02:09 AM

There are about 6 versions of that song floating around in GP files.

None of which are accurate.

I mentioned that already.

I'm not writing a drum track for it though. Feel free if you'd like to.

heres how it looks

RHYTHM
---------
29a
jer
supersize

LEADS
--------
Zakk Wylde
Alex
and myself

Zakk and Alex can split the leads over the song

Ill do a improv lead over the last heavy riff

Posted by: superize Apr 17 2009, 12:06 PM

I am working on the fast part and it is not going to be a problem doing for me

Posted by: jer Apr 17 2009, 01:37 PM

Sweet.

Jonas, think you can handle rhythms up til the solo break?

You and I can do it, then Superize can take over your side from there.

Something i noticed on the backing is that the fast part is alot slower then it should be

Posted by: jer Apr 17 2009, 01:59 PM

Its like its in half time or something....

If any of you guys can find a backing or GP file that is better I can use that for a backing.

Posted by: superize Apr 17 2009, 05:49 PM

Here is the GP file i use

 Seek___Destroy.gp5 ( 128.11K ) : 88

Posted by: jer Apr 17 2009, 05:54 PM

Is that middle drum part better?

Can you save this as a wav and repost it? I cant hear GP files at work...

If its good I'll make a backing for it. Unless anyone else wants to.

Its just a pain in the arse.

Posted by: jer Apr 18 2009, 03:08 PM

So lets get this decided then.

Jonas, can you handle that much of the song yet?

Posted by: Skalde Apr 22 2009, 03:45 PM

Hey guys, If you want, I would a try to make the backing track more kicking
I can also do some mixing - I suggest that the rhythm players all use the same tone. If you send me dry tracks I could mix them.
Just tell me what you think about it. I cant promise anything, though biggrin.gif

Posted by: jer Apr 22 2009, 03:51 PM

I'll leave this up to the others.

Matters not to me.

Fist we need to know who is playing when.

Posted by: Skalde Apr 22 2009, 03:58 PM

maybe the 2 of the rhytm payers should always play the same thing. Would make the sound far more heavier.

Posted by: jer Apr 22 2009, 04:00 PM

It would. But at the same time we want to let as many people be involved as we can.

Posted by: Skalde Apr 22 2009, 04:02 PM

I meant it this way:
section1: player a and player b
section2: player c and player d
section3: .. ...

it doesn't matter how many people are involved

Posted by: superize Apr 22 2009, 04:06 PM

I am pretty much ready to record anytime......

I have been working on the song for a while and i have learned everything but the solo

Posted by: jer Apr 22 2009, 04:08 PM

I dont follow how that matters.

if we look at the song as 3 parts.

before solo
solo
after solo

how would

1 - a-b
2 - c-d
3 - e-f

be any better than

1 - a-b
2 - c-b
3 - a-c

Regardless of all of this we need more people involved for there to be anything to record. Sooooooo, lets get this locked down shall we?

If you are reading this and want to play on this collab please weigh in on the parts assignments.

Posted by: Skalde Apr 22 2009, 04:22 PM

Ok, than let's do it that way. I think I could play all parts, except for the solo. If you give me more time, I would be in for rhyhtm guitar.

Posted by: jer Apr 22 2009, 04:31 PM

You can take Jonas' (a29) spot if he isnt ready.

Superize, you ready?

Posted by: Skalde Apr 22 2009, 04:41 PM

Which part should I play? I haven't learend it yet. Just played it along guitar pro
One more thing: I think we should agree on one tab - there are so many different versions out there it is hard to tell which one sounds correct.
e.g the intro:
I like to play it that way:
http://justinguitar.com/images/ST_images/ST-302-SeekAndDestroy.pdf

When I look to metallica live videos. It seems like they play it this way:
Actually this sounds pretty good

CODE
E|---------------------------------------------------
B|--------3-4-3-------------------------------------
G|--------------------2-3-2-------------5-2--------
D|------------------------------3-2-5-2-------------
A|--0--0----------0---------0-----------------------
E|----------------------------------------------------

Either tab is fine with me.

Jonas, are you able and ready to do this? Or are you sitting this one out.

Posted by: Skalde Apr 23 2009, 06:32 PM

update for today: I played the song now several times along the record till the break before the fast part.
I will be ready to record my take soon, just need more training to play along the backing track.

Posted by: jer Apr 23 2009, 06:34 PM

cool. We'll assume Jonas (29a) is stepping out if we dont hear anything soon.

I have brushing up to do too...

Posted by: Skalde Apr 25 2009, 05:53 PM

update:
I hadn't had to much time for practice, though I added video to my post with shows me playing along the studio record.
This is how it currently looks like. Need some more practice before I can upload my take. And yeah I messed it up a little bit. I think the timing in the intro needs more work.
Hopefully the video works for you(can't see it with VLC media player, but windows media player should work fine)
 seekn.wmv ( 6.29MB ) : 100

Something i noticed is that you are playing the part after the first intro riff wrong....

You are playing

D-----------5-7-5-7
A-----------5-7-5-7-----------7-5
E-0-0-0-0-----------0-0-0-0------8-7 when i play it i play 7-6 on this part and it sound much better then yours
