GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Tv Series To Recommend?

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Aug 29 2012, 05:01 PM

Hey guys! I just finished the second season of "Game Of Thrones" Which has been AMAZING! and I'm now waiting for the new Walking Dead season, however I would like to start with any other one in that style... I have seen some episodes from Touch but I lost interest on it, the first episodes were awesome them I started to get bored. Do you know any other series in this style to recommend? (new ones or old ones).

Can't wait for this one! biggrin.gif

Dexter is one of my favorite shows of all time. It's about a bloodsplatter analyst in the Miami DEA who doubles as a serial killer that KILLS serial killers.

True Blood is another one that is awesome!

That's a great show I watched it a few years ago been waiting for it on Netflix.

Ummm, hmm I watched Breaking Bad Seasons 1-4 I think in around a week tops. I enjoyed it. It's about a school teacher getting involved in making meth. His brother-in-law is a cop, has no clue about it. It gets pretty crazy to see what they have to do to get by.

Yes! I'm halfway through season 3 right now. It's my second favorite show. Before True Blood, after Dexter.

Some don't like it but I like it. It's entertaining and has some humor mixed in. Sometimes it can be a little too much but overall I enjoy it.

Mighty Ships !! Documentary series about big ships and what they do..

I know, I'm so sad ! laugh.gif

There hasn't been anything I've been interested in since Desperate Housewives ended... dry.gif

Well I'm not sure if these are exactly in the same style of the Walking Dead & Game of Thrones, but I'll just give you a list of some TV series I've enjoyed! smile.gif

Continuum, a brand new TV series aired here in 2012.
Is about a detective from the year 2077, that gets back to the year 2012, with criminals from the year 2077, and she has to stop them from changing the future. It contains a lot of action and some nice humor! biggrin.gif (of course depends on your kind of humor, hmpfh ^^)

IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1954347/

Luther from 2010
Is about a DCI agent that works with cases that involves serial killers. And trust me there are some pretty wicked serial killers in this series!

IMDb link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1474684/

Sherlock from 2010
This guy you should know biggrin.gif, but its a modern update of the old Sherlock Holmes, and it has a lot of good humor and some weird crimes to solve tongue.gif

IMDb link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1475582/

I hope you'll like some of these tongue.gif, cheers.

It sounds like something close to the last Tim Burton movie, isn't it?

No way it's much more serious than Tim Burton's last movie.

I'm quite picky when it comes to watching tv, most tv series I hate with a passion, however these are great...

Game Of Thrones - I've just started to watch (on Session 1) as recommended by a friend, I didn't think it would be something I'll enjoy, surprised me. It's a really good watch!

The Walking Dead - Love zombie movies and games. This tv series isn't a let down. Enjoyed!

Falling Skies - Aliens attack earth, attempting to enslave the children with mind controlling harnesses and killing off the adults who try stop them, produced by Steven Spielberg. Recommended!

Breaking Bad - A man producing drugs to support his families income in secret couldn't get any worst, then they do again and again. Great!

Anyone seen any episodes from "Person Of Intrest"? Seems its from the same guy who wrote Dark Knight trilogy.
Looks interesting in the trailer.

I atch and love many, justa few:

Sons of anarchy, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Big bang theory, Castle, House (ended), Vampire diaries and Fringe just come to mind.

Hi guys!! Thanks a lot for all the recommendations! I just added Breaking Bad and True Blood to my list of series to see... I don't have tv at home now because I never watch it. I use to see these series online, where do you see them?

Posted by: Marcus Siepen Sep 5 2012, 10:53 AM

I am really into tv series ( in contrast to tv itself wink.gif ), here are my faves:
The Sopranos (best mafia Series EVER!!!)
Rome
Game of Thrones (This is love/hate for me, the series itself is very cool, but they completely drift away from the books, which is horrible)
The Walking Dead
Big Bang Theory
Gene Simmons Family Jewels
Terminator - S.S.C. (unfortunately ended after the second season, unfinished)
Twin Peaks
X-Files

The bold and the beautifull?? laugh.gif laugh.gif

Great ones! Thanks mate!

Does anybody know this one? My girlfriend really recommended me but the bad thing about this is that it was cancelled in the 2 seasons so it's unfinished...

Posted by: wollace03 Sep 5 2012, 02:14 PM

well... I am not the biggest fan of TV series and there are only two that I really watched from beginning to end and that are

24 with Kiefer Sutherland and

(thanks to my wife who first forced me to watch it which I later enjoyed I have to admit)
friends

and sometimes when I really have too much time (which I never have)
scrubs

rolleyes.gif I think this answer is not good for my reputation...

Posted by: Marcus Siepen Sep 5 2012, 03:47 PM

24 was nice too, indeed. I really liked season 1, this "realtime" aspect was a cool idea. I think I also watched seasons 2 and 3, but somehow I dropped out at that point.
This trailer for Carnivale looks very good, it reminds me A LOT of a graphic novel that I love, called "Freaks of the heartland". Too bad that it is unfinished, I hate it when they cut something in the middle

yes, it really bad when that happens... the youtube comments say... "they should have given more promotion to this great tv series" sad.gif

I am checking that novel and the graphics are too close! I will definitely try to get it. smile.gif

Posted by: Marcus Siepen Sep 5 2012, 04:07 PM

Get it!!! I am a big fan of graphic novels, and this one is among my faves. I can also recommend "30 days of night", forget about the movie, it is horrible, but the original graphic novels are SOOOOOOOOOOO good! Plus anything from Neil Gaiman, or Alan Moore...

Posted by: Machadaynu Sep 6 2012, 12:20 AM

There's always Doctor Who... That show will never end. wink.gif

My mates in Aria are watching this and they nagged me a lot of time regarding it, but I just didn't get the time to watch it smile.gif

Now, if you're into martial arts tongue.gif You can watch the Japanese series - Musashi (go figure laugh.gif ) or Tsukahara Bokuden - they are both sword oriented, so if you don't like the idea, they might be a bit boring, but they are full of fighting and humorous stuff.

Are anime series included here? biggrin.gif If yes, go for Samurai Champloo!

As for more normal series - I totally recommend the first season in 'Prison break'

Posted by: Marcus Siepen Sep 6 2012, 05:00 PM

I need more time to watch all the stuff I already have on my list ^^

Thanks for this additions mate! I heard a lot the name Prison break but I have never seen it...

Seems like you are going to have a lot of TV to watch smile.gif

I'm a little late, and since you already watch The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones I'd recommend:

True Blood - it is good. Those who have read the books have issue with the show as it strays from the books. I've read the books and some stuff bugs me but all in all the show is very entertaining.

The Sopranos - Have to agree with Marcus as it is the best Mafia show EVER and probably my fave TV show of all time.

Rome - There was unfortunately only 2 seasons of this show. The first season is all about Ceasar so not hard to figure out the outcome wink.gif Ciaran Hinds does a brilliant job as Ceasar and why they didn't do the whole series about him I have no idea. 2nd season was good but doesn't compare to the first imho. Still worth a watch though.

Sons of Anarchy - One of the best shows on TV right now. It's about the trials and tribulations of a biker gang in California. Amazing performances and the story line is sooo good. Can't wait until Tuesday when season 5 starts smile.gif

Boardwalk Empire - Great show about organized crime in Atlantic City during prohibition. Steve Buscemi is brilliant in it.

The Wire - One of the best shows EVER

The Big Bang Theory - I'm picky when it comes to comedy series but this is one of the best. So smart and very very funny.

X-Files - It's a classic, one of the best smile.gif

Posted by: Marcus Siepen Sep 7 2012, 08:27 AM

I also have Boardwalk Empire and 3 seasons of True Blood lying here, and Flash Forward... I NEED MORE TIME smile.gif And about Rome, yes, there are only 2 seasons, but they are awesome! I read an interview with the producers, and everybody was bugging them to do a thirf season. Well, they refused, cause they only had the budget to do two seasons at this level, a third season would mean they would have to compromise on everything and so they decided to got for 2 high quality seasons. Right decision if you ask me!

I'm trying to find the time to start watching True Blood.
