Hey Tim!

As you've pointed yourself - this is not yet perfect. There are some timing issues here and most of faster runs is not precise - some note missing or being executed in a wrong way. I would advice you some right hand workouts with picking direction assignment to each note. I belive your right hand that has been used to strumming (that goes really nice in your case) is not set properly for solo picking type. I belive most of picking direction is spontanious and random (different for every take). When you're lucky to keep good picking assignment for each note, you execute the lick quite nice, but when you randomly start the same lick with opposite picking direction, then it falls.

Try to imagine every note has picking direction depending on it's rhythm placement in the bar. If you spend some time making order with the runs that are most problematic, you'll see that the progress will come faster. You need bring some kind of routine to your right hand behaviors. Watching many of your takes that's my common observations.

From the good things I'm ebserving your vibrato and bends getting better. Pitch is not perfect yet but you become more consistent on both fields.

Hi Tim, I think you did quite a good job during the first half of the lesson, before the runs got faster.

Your timing has improved a lot along with your control of vibrato and bending.

I agree with Darius that you would benefit massively from dedicating a significant amount of study to honing your alternate picking skills. I'm a big believer in teaching people to develop their picking and finger movements on one string before applying runs across the neck. So I recommend you to work on the 'magic 3' shapes that you find in all scales. Those 3 main 3 note per string shapes will occur all over the neck so if you can synchronise your hands with them now, you will make it easier for yourself when practising anything that involves picking across strings.

This lesson is just an example of playing 3note per string patterns on one string, in isolation. You don't have to learn this piece but I advise you to take the same approach. Practise the shapes in isolation and practise them both ways - ascending and descending.

You absolutely have to be able to nail this. It's not just a suggestion, you do need to be able to do this if you want to be able to play those types of lines so you have your homework, young man!

Hi mate,

As this is a first take and the idea is to use it as reference to monitor your progress I note that you obviously need to work on many things in order to polish the lesson.

I can suspect that besides the expressing elements that always need hard work, you'll find that the faster licks will be tricky to master so I also recommend to combine the work on this lesson with some other alternate picking exercises. You can use my Intensive Technique Course, Todd's Shred Journey or some other lessons from the site (Both Ben and Darius had great lessons for alternate picking).

This take shows sync issues, as well as timing problems, unwanted noises and many other things that the other instructors already marked. So write down the things you need to work and do it!
