Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Hey there! This is our favorite place as well smile.gif

I have to say your take is very strong! I like your tone match and feel. There are only details to fix and make it sound perfect

I would suggest to increase your dynamics even more - I would try to make the "soft notes" even softer. Notice how visible is the tonal difference between soft and strong notes in Chris original lesson video. Try to make it so soft that you almost touch the string instead of stroking. That's the main blues flavor - the dynamics created through tonal contrast and vibrato speed and depth control. That's what makes blues sound like blues smile.gif You are very close but I can hear there is still a little more you can do to make it sound even more pro.

At 0:09-0:10 watch out for this bend. You made it a half-step too high, reaching a major third of this chord instead of minor third. Backing guitars are based on the dorian mode, not major mode so we need to bend to D, not to D# even if the major 6th from dorian mode adds a little confusion.

Overall it's a piece of good work smile.gif

Hi Anese,

this is a very good take mate! I can note that you've been working really hard on this lesson. The overall sound very close to the original lesson. You just could work on small details to get the most of this lesson.

These details are related to adjust bending in some sections where you are not totally precise, like for example the bend at 00:40, or the smaller bends like the one at 00:10 or 01:08 that don't sound precise.

Besides this, I think that there is more room to work on dynamics. This is the element that is lacking on most of the phrases and licks so I would put focus on it.

By the way, I insist, this sounds good! You did a killer job, keep going!

This take is excellent. You've got great timing and a great grasp on blues phrasing. I'm going to keep this short because I only have one piece of advice here:

Your picking hand seems to have one setting - hard attack.

This is great when you want a strong sounding note but don't forget that you don't want the attack at 100% ALL the time. It's like you've got the fretting hand of a bluesman but the picking hand of a thrash guitarist. Just allow things to ebb and flow, ebb and flow.

It's only a small fix... you'll get there in no time at all - well done!
