I´ve seen that clip two times and I can´t get enough. It sounds so awesome, Muris! Good luck in the competition. I´ll have to save some money for my ticket to London. biggrin.gif

Edit: I´m watching it for the 3 time now. And in the bed I´ll watch it again. biggrin.gif

Wow...
You never fail to impress me. This one is absolutely beautiful.
So much control, such a touching melody.
Thanks for sharing your gift with us bro, this one really touched my heart!

Posted by: UncleSkillet Jan 1 2009, 11:40 PM

I loved everything about it!! Musical arrangement was just brilliant how you had that melody line and would come back to it once in a while. Kind of like home base. I got a since of music from your culture mixed with it also that made it even more interesting. The Wah pedal made me want to jump out of my skin (I mean this in a good way). When you hit certain notes I could really feel you passion.

Got to go have another listen. smile.gif I wish you the best of luck and I will vote when it is up.

Posted by: Jerry Arcidiacono Jan 1 2009, 11:48 PM

Awesome composition and sound Muris. Best of luck for you smile.gif

Posted by: enforcer Jan 1 2009, 11:49 PM

First of all great tone, great melody great composition...

but I got a question in the harmony at 0:48 are you using a chorus at backtrack? Its like backtrack lead is played with some comma, as it is surely sounds powerfull it made me wonder...

And just a final question are you using 0.11 strings? as they are brand new in the video they seem a little thick...

I think you dont need luck with this one, you obvilously created your own luck with something like that...

Man, you are great biggrin.gif

Well seriously I loved this I think its way better than your Dean Shredder Contest entry video, it's very melodic and repetetive, and seriously rich in emotion... Really theme melody was just like singing like "final dance.." That was really great...

True!!
Problem with Dean contest is timing,1min top and it should be shred
so I couldn't waste too much time on melody.
I mean I could have, but result would be something else. smile.gif

yeah when I listened to it I though the same, you have so many skills how you could possibly fit them in a 1 min take and try to turn that to a song... biggrin.gif

Yes and can't wait to hear on locations as I might need a ROAD trip

Posted by: jdriver Jan 2 2009, 02:12 AM

I was really fascinated by the great melody and all that you did with it, and like UncleSkillet, I was going to comment on the slavic or gypsy scale sounding elements, which is exactly how traditional music gets passed on for centuries, only now it's way more modern and spectacular!

Best of luck, and with some luck I will catch you in the U.S.

I noticed on your facial expressions that you really felt the music ^^

One question though, do you actually record that in one take, or is that something like the second, fifth or fifteenth take? mellow.gif

You're truly an inspiration!

And I just want to let you know that I still listen to Junk Medley every now and then, just because it is awesome, and I will be listening to this many times as well!

Amazing! I really like your playing and feel when you slow it down. The speed flurries are just as great though...It's crazy what you can get your hands and fingers to do.

My hands cramped up and exploded just watching this. biggrin.gif Practice, practice, practice

Of course it is awesome, and everything else everyone else has already said here. I will for sure be seeing you in St. Louis. If you are traveling with a band don't forget about discount tickets for GMC members...just kidding we should probably have to pay double.
Oh, and what did you mean by "this time straight" in the topic title?

Posted by: Eat-Sleep-andJam Jan 2 2009, 06:12 AM

Clearly your a gifted and all out talented player Muris.

This is music, at its finest.

Not only do I wish for you to win this years GI but I hope you win with flying colors.
It will come of no shock when I see that you make it in this year.

But please. Do us all a favor.

And bring Ez Drummer to London wink.gif

Muris, if you get to the finals, do you think you could sign me up for the guest list? biggrin.gif I would love to see this live.

You know, the only thing that sometimes bothered me about your playing was your own style... but you really managed to do your own thing in this song. I mean, you always do your outstanding thing, but this time I've never heard anything comparable to this! The emotion in this song is so strong. I love it biggrin.gif

(Watching again: I can tell by your face you really mean what you're playing. Nice!)

It is hard to find your own style among many influences, big time true!!

Brilliant as always, I love the tapping licks in the solo, And the whole song has a very Steve Vai feel to it, In the sense it has a very exotic atmosphere and is just stunningly beautiful.

Is this a tune that is gonna be on your next solo album maybe? smile.gif

so that's why Final laugh.gif

Muris,
Are you gonna be playing any of your solo stuff when you come to the US? BTW, when you play this in the finals at Guitar Idol '09 let me know and I'll hook you up with that chicken suit and diving mask to give you that extra edge you were apparently lacking in the Dean Shredder contest. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Unfortunately not, US tour is for some other stuff and not my own project. dry.gif

But you've got a deal about suit and mask laugh.gif

Muris,
When you write something like this do you write/tab it out and change things as it evolves or is this improvised somewhat? This seems like you spent quite a bit of time really composing this piece. Am I right or did you improvise alot on this one? Can't get the melody out of my head, I'm loving it!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Main theme is mostly composed, yeah, with few licks
that comes along the way as you play it.
But solo, specially those longer runs, I have no idea what I played,
I usually start from certain note and I aim for the last one,
everything in between is dictated by hands. laugh.gif

When it comes to winning GI.

I think that the best entry should win, whether it's you or someone else. However, your entry is so much better performed and composed than the other contestants (no offence mr Präntare and Evans) that I believe you deserve to win. I love those trills. They really enhance the melody and the balkan influences can really be spotted!

Great work!

No offense, but that percussionist was very good. Everyone makes mistakes and Muris piece was crazy to count tongue.gif Unfortunately the consequences of that mistake affected Muris. This piece is still not easy, timing wise. But easier (especially for the other musicians involved). I do really like the melody and structure of it and I have to say that the timing still is very attracting, I mean - it's not DA DA DA DA DA DA DI!

Your 6/8 sounds very odd because of many stroke dissplacements so I don't suggest these drummers. Either bring a drummer with you or play over a backing.

Even though I originally thought the 6/8 was a 9/8, After listening to it a few times, Its not that bad. I think given a few hours of practice a drummer could keep that time pretty well, The trill sections seems like it would be the more difficult part to keep time with.

Or you could just hire Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, then you could play in 15.74/8 and it wouldnt matter laugh.gif

Any chance for an mp3? wink.gif
And for sure you should put it onto your upcoming LP.

A great composition Muris! The song structure reminds me of the way Satriani constructs instrumentals, although the style is quite different smile.gif I enjoyed the underlying Balkan sound to the piece and you have created a good balance between technique and soul.
