The answer is quite simply that they sound a bit different from each other and are typically used for different types of tones. But to better illustrate this, the spiff folks over at Pro Tone Pedals made a spiff vid featuring one of each type of pedal to make things a bit easier. Each of these is a really nice pedal but they are NOT cheap. Honestly, I'd say pick which type of pedal you like and buy the JOYO or NUX version Here is the vid.
