Hey guys,

I was wondering what you though of having a general thread to share any recording/mixing/mastering tips you come across?

I'm still pretty new to audio production, and I know others who are as well - so I figured it would be a nice place to share everyone's tips/experiences since everyone has their own unique approach.

I guess to start off I'll throw a free reverb VST I came across that I am liking very much:

https://tal-software.com/products/tal-reverb

It's a decent reverb plugin, but I find it to be even more effective when used in combination with your main reverb. Since I have Reaper - I will generally use the built in reverb and then layer it with Tal-reverb-ii for depth and it works pretty well actually.

Hello Chris,

I put a similar idea forward HERE last year.
Maybe time for a rethink smile.gif People put these questions into the Practise Room, The Gear section and even the Chill Out area.

How about it Kris?

Cheers smile.gif

The subject is really deep and hopefully will get a separate section in the future (along video too). Till then we can always help each other with Q&A smile.gif

Great idea! I'm now downloading that Reverb, thanks!

Check out these free pedals, I used them a lot in my mixes:

Your in luck! We created one a bit back in our wiki! This can be edited and added to at any time. It's partially based on a thread of questions about recording/mixing/mastering that I often get. Here is the link.

Cool idea !

Mixing and mastering is a very intriguing world,... and a very big one!

Learning from books can be discouraging as they sometimes get very theoretical. Having a thread with questions and clear answers can be very useful and educational. I'm curious where this will lead us.

For those who want to dig deeper, here is the title of a good book : "Mixing Secrets For The Small Studio", by Mike Senior (Nigel Kennedy, Therapy, Reef, Wet Wet Wet...).

The first part is pretty heavy and theoretical about how you should build (or improve) your homestudio (or workspace), accoustics, waveforms, phase and comb filtering, etc. All very technical, but very interesting and well explained ! And the autor is right : "You can't mix what you can't hear!" And you get killer tips about monitors and other stuff you need.

The rest of the book gives you great information of the mixing proces with lots of killer tips that should give you the knowledge to achieve release-quality mixes, in your small home studio.
