Steve Vai is a really talented & highly skilled guitar player. He is awesome in the literal sense of the word.

Unfortunately the huge array of effects he uses sometimes detracts from the musicality of his performance for me.
Added to that the 'dancing around hiding the guitar behind his back, holding it out, lifting it up & down while it emits high pitch squeals' just doesn't do it for me.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see the movie & I'm sure I'd very much enjoy most of it, I just find that sometimes he gets overly technical with his signal & goes off into flights of self-indulgent 'performance'.

I have no problem with someone screwing their face up, stabbing a fist into the air, stomping their foot or shaking their head around in the expression of pure joy that is guitar playing. That's cool & sometimes the moment just takes you & you can't help it. But swapping the instrument from hand to hand & sticking it behind your back? Come on, please just play it some more can't you?..... blink.gif

Vai is insane! Not only insanely good, but to practise that much and behave like that, he has to be a bit crazy in the head as well tongue.gif
