Sony DCR-HC 51(E) ...
Do you know if there is a difference between the HC51 and HC51E? Otherwise i would have the same ...

The E stands for E streaming, means , you can use it as a webcam.

Nice ... congratulations .. !! The sx30 records on internal memory and not on miniDV tapes, right?

Its a more practical way of storing files and it should be good enough for your needs...Though I heard those camcorders tend to compress video in order to fit those cards (MiniDV would give you better quality).Tell us your experience after you record the gig!
Cheers

hm .. not sure what you mean with render to HD, it's not an HD camera or is it? Bodgan is right, both types have advantages and disadvantages, but with your camera it will be really easy to import videos into your PC. You will for sure have fun with it !!

You can but I wouldn't recommend that You can upscale image to HD but it will just look bad on that resolution nothing near real HD and the video file will be huge. I have just checked specs on your camcorder - looks really cool! Congrats on getting it.

Do you have a tripod for the camcorder? If you are to record gigs etc you should get one...Even cheap plastic photo ones should do the job nicely...Its especially essential if you are going to use that monster zoom - to keep the cam steady.

One more tip about gig recording.Shoot from the middle and a little away from the stage, in order to get best sound. If you come too close to the stage sound will clip on the camcorder...

We'll try to record it on the balcony. The gig orginisation film from there as well.
