Metal Essentials! You know I need to REC 'em all!! After ME #2 and #3, now is the time for the next one! Also this is the first time I double tracked for a bigger sound! Double tracking is great, but not as easy as I thought! Hope you like it!

This is better and more within your comfort zone. However I still see clear signs you are not approaching the difficult sections in a good way when practicing.

Right before the faster slides, I can feel you are tensing up, holding your breath and focusing less on the beat. This tells me you are not really prepared for these sections.

This typically happens when you set the practice tempo according to the less challenging parts, and through wishfull thinking hope the tricky parts will resolve themselves. You obviously need to do the exact opposite - which is why people like to isolate the tricky sections and just practice them separately to save some practice time.

You get a 6 on this take. I am extremely eager to see what happens if you change your routine following my advice. Keep it up! 👊

You have the "Groove" to be sure. You are also playing with feeling and with confidence which is great to see. So there is a lot that is good. As I watched your take, I enjoyed it and clearly you have fun playing it which is a big part of performing. I started to notice that you were lagging the beat just a pinch. It's not a huge amount of lag, just enough to put you behind the metronome a pinch. It starts to throw the entire thing off. I think you have this one just about ready, but I'd say isolate each part and make sure you can play on or even a fraction ahead of the beat. It's always best to be on the beat, but my ears always notice lagging ahead of a slight bit of rushing for some reason. I'd say go give this one some more time in the wood shed!!

Hi George!

Great job here! The tricky part of recording doubled guitars is that you need to play as tight as possible to make it sound as one big guitar. I think that the results here are very convincing and that you are ready for the next lessons from this series.

The more your practice this stuff, the more relaxed you'll play it. This will made a big impact in groove and dynamics.

You're going like crazy! Through all these Essentials of course

This one is a tricky and requires high discipline form both hands. The apparent ease of playing makes you think you can pass on some attention....and that's when most fall.

First - doubletracking makes more sense when you pan both tracks extremely aside from each other - 100% left and 100% right. Mixing them in mono makes just the little imprefections blurry the mix and phase issues appear (very little). Same phase issues create that common "wall of guitars" effect, when guitars are panned. So...fix this next time


For my taste your amount of gain exeeded the sweet spot. You've lost the yummy crunch that was all about. the trick is to have relatively low gain on the amp and push your hand to "give the gain". It never works well if you do the opposite.

There are some little timing issues (mostly rushing/in front of the beat) that would be even more clear when you pan the guitar properly. Not that serious but still there.

Now the control of unwnated noises/strings is something unclear due to gain amount. I have a feeling that something is cuttign through at some spots and is blurries the mix instead of just ringing out.

Anyway this is still a good performance. Just remember - the less complicated playing seems to be, the more less obvious traps it may have
