Promoting Your Music With “Reels”

Instagram has a new thing called “REELS” it’s a great way to engage you fans and reach new fans for you music. In the video below you get a full tutorial on how to use reels if you are new to it. If you don’t have an instagram account, go make one. It’s a great way to get your music in front of new fans. Once you create an account, how can you grow your audience.

1.)Share Your “reels’ video on your feed as well.
This is covered in the video. It helps you get more engagement which is the critical thing. Engagement is the magic word here. If people like your reel, it will get pushed out to more people. If nobody likes it, it won’t get pushed out at all.

2.)Get to the point Quickly.
Reels default to 15 seconds. You can change it to 30. But it’s a short thing. If people swipe away, you won’t get pushed out to more people. Get to it right away. People swipe away quickly if you don’t grab them right away. So do something to keep them watching.

3.)Encourage People To Engage.
You want people to comment and like. Put text in, “please tap if you liked” , “please like this vid”. Don’t be shy. The more engagement the more you get pushed out to new folks. Ask directly for their support. It increased the chance that you will get some likes and get pushed out to new people

4.)Hashtags are effective on REELS.
Use tags that fit your content. Hashtags are not as effective on instagram anymore but they do work on reels. It’s newer and the field is smaller. Take advantage of the new platform and get a great set of hash tags that you can copy and paste in each time.

5.)Set a cover Image.
Choose a picture that is the cover image. It should be something that makes people stop and watch your video. The cover image is crucial. If you don’t have a killer image, people won’t stop to watch in the feed. Your reel gets shared in reels and in your feed. Make the cover image something people want to see. Yes this is click bait but thats the game we are playing.

6.)Be consistent with your content.
All of your content should follow a theme. Be consistent. If you are doing guitar videos, keep doing guitar videos. Don’t switch up to doing comedy or something. Try to keep your content consistent and regularly post new content.

7.)Add captions and subtitles to your REELS.
Reels is often seen integrated in to the feed with the sound off. So put something in the caption like “TURN SOUND ON!” or “LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE”. Again, don’t be shy. Direct and to the point.

Reels is fairly new so it’s a great way to get some traction on Instagram. You have to jump in quickly though as it’s getting filled up very fast. People are flocking to it so it won’t be a great vehicle for growth for long. It’s trying to kill tick tock. That’s the real goal of REELS to destroy tick tock by making a tick tock like function part of instagram. Jump in and get some new fans!
