GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ New Line Of Digitech Pedals...

Posted by: bladzerok Aug 28 2008, 03:54 PM

hey everyone, recently i was on the digitech website and i found out that they came out with a http://www.digitech.com/hardwire.php meant to be high quality pedals, with true bypass, all metal housing and high voltage operation (for more headroom huh.gif). they seem pretty cool, but they are not very expensive(about $100 for O.D. with true bypass, metal housing, high voltage operation.ect) so im not sure that they really worth it because i think digitech could have made sound sacrifice to lower the price...

anyway, id love to know what you think about those smile.gif
thank

Might be good alternative to boss pedals. They could give some sounds samples on website.

Posted by: RIP Dime Aug 28 2008, 04:59 PM

Nice, I've never liked Digitech stuff, but these look like an improvement.

Posted by: audiopaal Aug 28 2008, 05:29 PM

Yeah, these looks like an improvement smile.gif

Will have to check them out when they hit the stores smile.gif

thanks for sharing!!!

Looks great! I always thought Digitech had good stuff at good price.

Posted by: Juan M. Valero Aug 28 2008, 05:40 PM

cool, looks good wink.gif I'd like to try them !!! I'll ask in the shop smile.gif

I had a very bad experience with a digitech pedalboard when I was younger so I think that I won't buy a product from them again... ( dry.gif maybe just a whammy).

I had the same experience... We all called it DigiCrap biggrin.gif

But this looks like it might have some promise...

i think those pedals could be better than boss, with true bypass and metal knobs.
i don't understand why they didn't give some sound samples, they gave some for almost all of their other pedal, if not all!

i used to like my DF 7 but then it started to sound too plasticy or something like that when i got my pod x3 and i thought i didnt need it any more since i got the x3. but now i am looking for one single pedal for portableness with my amp for quick jam sessions instead of carry a massive pedalboard around. and these might be it smile.gif or the thousands of other pedals :S!! the saturator looks quite promising though! anyways i should start my own thread on that lol.
thanks for sharing new info wink.gif

Didnt know about these! Looks quite interesting.
Hopefully a local store will import some and i can get the chance to test them out smile.gif

Posted by: Fran Aug 28 2008, 07:10 PM

Cool stuff, true bypass is always great, I wish my crybaby had true bypass!

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Aug 28 2008, 07:23 PM

These have to be very good in order to compete with other pedals out there. We will see how much they cost and how they sound.

Anyone tried any of these pedals yet? The reviews i've read and seen has been very positive and the youtube demos sound pretty good (atleast as far os youtube sound quality goes =/ ). I'm gonna try the metal, tube overdrive and delay pedal next week.
I'll come back with some comments.

Posted by: inertia Nov 29 2008, 06:41 AM

Yeah dude, I bought the delay it's awesome, I've heard demos for the metal pedal (tl-2), sounds way better than other metal pedals like the metal muff...the one I'd be most interested in is the distortion, seems like a good alternative to a keeley DS-1, as for the tube overdrive there are just too many good overdrives out there like the tubescreamers, OCD etc i don't think it can really compete, have true bypass is definitely a plus and they are built really rugged
I am also considering the tuner, apparently it's really good as well, want to keep all the pedals on my board true bypass if possible

Posted by: Wilska Nov 29 2008, 10:45 AM

Yeah i'm mostly interested in the delay and the tuner. I'm gonna try the O/D but i'm really interested in the Krankshaft OD, though it's quite a bit more expensive =(

They have sound samples. You just have to find them.

I bought the Hardwire cm-2 Tube Overdrive last weekend.
I don't feel I have enough general knowledge to make a true review of it. But here are my impressions:

Extremely well-built, the moment I held it in my hand I was struck by how solid it felt.
Seems to have very good quality components, no hiss ,clicks or unwanted noise at all, no pop or klick when stomping on/off.
Definetly let's your guitars characteristics through. Lots of usefull sounds, sensitive buttons. The voicing switch actually makes it sound like two completely different pedals.

Now, I use this as an extra push on my already distorted tube-amp. I push it on to get some extra harmonics and just insane tones. When I push this on my guitar simply sings.
I've used it a little on my clean channel just to test the pedal as a low-distortion device and in my ears it sounds very nice. Very responsive. Pleasant overdrive.

All in all i'm extremely satisfied and I urge anyone looking for a overdrive pedal to go try this pedal out!

THanks for sharing the experience Wilska, I will definitely check out the new pedal, I saw the whole line in music store in town. smile.gif

Ivan you'll be surprised how good they are, and they're geared towards gigging musicians, extremely tough build, they have a guard you can put over the knobs so you don't accidentally knock your settings off...plus they are all true bypass and work as 18v internally even though they take 9v...I only have the delay right but I'm definitely getting the metal pedal when I have more cash, it's the best sounding metal pedal I've ever heard, I own the metal muff and it sucks compared to the TL2, and i will also buy the tuner. They teamed up with lexicon for a few of the pedals, the reverb and I believe the delay so you know they sound good.

Yeah they sound pretty good on the samples on the site that's for sure.

And 18V? These things must weigh ton if they've got the transformer circuitry (which requires DC-AC -> AC-DC conversion circuits also) and a metal chasis. Transformers are expensive parts (probably the most $$$ in a tube amp are the two transformers), how much are these pedals?

Posted by: ChrisVdS Dec 16 2008, 10:48 AM

They look so similar like boss pedals that metal pedal and the chromatic tuner are almost thesame, maybe they are making copies with some new technology?

Just by looking at the specs, it's 25% heavier than the metalzone, but 50% lighter than my line 6...so I don't know that's going on haha

Again, I'm not picky on how much it weighs, but I'm just trying to decipher what's inside.

Woah that's sort of insulting to be honest. Atleast try one of them before you say something like that. I haven't enjoyed a single boss pedal ever since they make everyone sound exactly the same. I don't know how boss got so big, but all the boss gear i've tried has just sucked up all my tone and taken away all my personality and especially the essence of how my guitar sounds. But ofcourse, in music everything is personal.

These new digitech pedals seems to be unbeatable as far as sound per dollar goes. Atleast to my ears.

Well not I want to try them even more! smile.gif Thanks mate for this very useful info, I'm curious now biggrin.gif Will try them ASAP in the store and tell you what I think.

I just picked up the Tube Overdrive CM-2

$99 us.

Gonna try it with a clone Marshall JCM800 50 watt head. Overdriving the already distorted amp like Wilska did.

I hope I have similar results as Wilska. I picked up a TS-9 to try too. Guitar Center will take em back if I'm not happy.

Wilska, you still happy with yours?

Anyone else tried these yet? They've been out a while now.

Hey Jer, hope you'll like it!
I'm still very very happy with mine, it's pretty darn versatile for a overdrive pedal. TS-9s are nice but have less versatility and also I have very high output guitar that's another reason I went for the CM-2

Well, last night went like this.

TS-9 vs CM-2 vs Boss SD-1 with mod

Boss SD-1 wins in my opinion.

The TS-9 had a bit too much fuzz for me. It was 2nd place.

The Digitech Hardwire CM-2 took it too far from tube tone. Made it more solid state. Too modern. I really liked the articulation I was hearing with the other 2. The Boss had a bit more brightness to it. It wasnt as "vintage" sounding.

The digitech sounded good from a "distortion" standpoint. And its built VERY well. It just took a bit too much from the sound of the amp.

Interesting. What was the mod on the SD-1? I'm was sort of looking for a more modern sound because i'm pretty young and don't want to sound like the "old farts" so to speak, but i'm still curious what that mod is.

I've been thinking about trading in my EHX Metal Muff for the TL-2 for a while now. My Metal Muff is good, but its not giving me the sound I want. I heard that the TL-2 on Loose has that bassy, fuzzy kind of sound i desire. Has anybody tried it yet? I haven't had time to cruise the stores for one yet.

I didn't have time to try it when I was at the store, but I want to so I will try it next time if I can. Though I really like the tight setting on it from what I heard from videos.

I love digitech, exept for those multi-effects pedals like the RG or RP (whatever it was called) but other than that digitech os great. can't wait to try these out..

I dont know what the mod was.... Its a friends of mine. I'll try and remember to ask him.
