hey guys!

after hearing a really amazing guitarist playing with pedals the other day, i decided that i'd like to get a pedal to play around with myself! the only problem (so far!) is, i've heard a lot of bad things about trying to play pedals on solid state amps. i currently have a fender fm 25 DSP ( Amp Specs ) and am quite worried that the pedal i'd like to get won't work well with it. the dunlop 535q crybaby, that is.

has anyone tried a similar effect pedal on a solid state amp before? what were the results? was it a lower quality sound, or was it just flat out terrible to listen to? or was there no real difference?

i'd like to upgrade to a tube amp in the near future, but i've got a few more months to work until i've got enough money for a tube amp i'd really like to buy (in the $1000 range), but i'd really like to play around with that wah in the meantime.

any responses are welcome! smile.gif

I had a crybaby back when I used a solid state amp, unfortunately it broke, the crybaby that is. It sounded like a wah to me, I don't think the amp would change the sound of the wah, the wah rather changes the guitar signal in the same way no matter what the amp is, so it should just sound like your amp, with the wah wah effect.
Anyway, it's a cool effect, should sound fine with your amp, and sound better with a tube amp when you get one.

No problem with effects on a SS amp. Just go for it!

The only reservation I have that I can think of is an Overdrive pedal that will not work the same really. I use it to cream the tubes so I get it to break up in sound. No tubes in a SS but I guess you'd get a distorted sound from it.

Yeah, I have a boost pedal (one knob, boosts the sustain/drive/volume from the amp) and I notice when I use it on my tube amp it helps it clip earlier and a little dirtier, but when I use it on a solid state clean channel it pretty much sounds like crunch.
