MTP Training Program for Phase 3i. New Song: Iron Maiden - The Trooper and Both Solos of this song
Target: Develop trills, hammer on pull off, some rock cliches, Fast pentatonic runs, bends, combining rhythme and melodic content.
Notes: Why playing a tune from Iron Maiden again? Besides the fact that we love iron maiden both of us, Maiden is an awesome bridge between rhythmic and melodic content. Besides solos are fast but relatively easy, themes are lovely and catchy. Songs contain a lot of repetitions so while playing a song, you have to virtually play a lick lots of times and in the end you have no choice but to nail it eventually
ii. New exercise: Muris Varajic - Jumping Around Beginner or Intermediate
Target: Develop speedy transitions between various positions on fretboard. And all in all it is an exercise by Muris which will contain different creative approaches and unusual difficulties. We will have fun
iii. New Syllabus Recommendation Exercise: Tantarella Rock or Slow Pentatonics
Target: Introduction to a new solo, new solos introduce new problem areas, so you can gain new abilities and develop further. For this week playing 20 secs of the exercise of choice at original speed.
Notes: It is essential to chose the one you like, and you think you will work on while having more fun.
iv. Developping Speed: Iron Maiden Losfer Words, Alice in Chains Exercise
Target: Play this instrumental song with original speed. Our first priority is completing Losfer, and with time AIC will also reach its original speed.
Notes: We will continue on these continously, our first priority is to complete Losfer Words, then we will play at original speed and flawlessly near the end of the 4th week.
v. New Instrumental Song: Metallica - Call of Cthulu
Target: Get familiar with the riffs of this tune, accomplishing to play it to the metronome. It contains strumming, arpeggios, rhythmic licks, melodies, solo, and good timing. We hope to get a half of this song done near the end of the 4th week.
Notes: This week, we will only memorize the song structure and fingering / fret positions of this song. That song will replace our arpeggio/Strumming exercise once that is completed.
vi. Theory
Target: Learn modes and practical use of Major/Minor/Modal Scales determining the key of a progression and choosing available scales and scale patterns for improvisation.
I definitely need feedback about this program. Dont let it become a source of intimidation for you. You are able to overcome all of this before the end of 4th week that is for sure. Baby steps as you previously mentioned, inch by inch we will conquer all this exercises. And we will have fun too.
