Tantarella: I'm going to concentrate on this and get it done. I want to get this one behind me.

Here were your notes on that:

QUOTE
*You have a sloppy mutting start, there are lots of unwanted string noise.

*And for the first note of the melody when the drums kicks in, you cut it a little short and misplaced

*And there is a problem with your trills. You play it like this: you play the previous part a la tempo, you get to the trill part, you play them out of sync, then you continue on tempo.

Can you elaborate on what you mean regarding the trills?

Ok, its hard to describe it but, this is something like this:

trills are series of fast hammer ons and pull offs. But the duration of notes must be a fraction of tempo however speedy they are. There is a problem on your trill timing, they are slightly out of tempo...

Well I'll see your next videos about them...

I'll be getting in some practice tonight.

I'm going to work on Tantarella only.

Aside from maybe 2-3 "exercies" to be working on, I want to have 1 major lesson in the pipeline.

With band practice 1 or 2 nights a week, other interests, and family/work its not realistic to spend more than about 5 hours a week practicing. And if I divide this up over 3 big projects its getting too diluted I think.

The things I have finished will still be played from time to time to stay fresh on them. Though I havent been doing well at that so far....

But 5 hours a week on 1 lesson should do nicely.

Thoughts Can? Is there a downside to this?

Ok I think this works, but there is a major setback: you can get bored easily and this will reduce your practice effectiveness. Its theoretically a good way to practice one exercise at a time, but do you think you can overcome the boredom problem?

Yeah, I think I will.

Since I'll progress faster. 20min 4 or 5 times a week is 1:40 on each exercise.

Versus 4-5 hours on 1 thing.

Right now I think it'll be fine. Its important to me to complete things and see progress.

I still have band stuff to do too... So I'm getting other playing done.

Eh.... The 2nd one is ok. There was a third but somehow the video cut it off again...... Somewhere between exporting it from vegas and it coming out of movie maker the end changes.

Inconsistent. I cant imagine why. I've played this how many times?

I thought I made comments about these videos bro, but somehow it didnt show up I dont know why?! Ok second is the best so far I think. Well I believe we may stop working on these exercises now, and start on new stuff. Now that you have got a lot of band work and less time for personal improvement, we may choose to start on a very challenging but a very usefull exercise now. I will post you the link right away.

String Skipping Alternate Picking Etude by Emir Hot

this is a great exercise bro. I am practicing it these days. Ofcourse I dont expect you to play it that fast. Start with original backings, first try to memorise the exercise, and use always and always the fingering provided. This will cut out your inconsistencies like a knife. Try this one, and it has some neoclassical spice on it, so it is fun to play it too. Tell me what you think of this ok?

Cheers biggrin.gif

What do you think causes the inconsistencies Can?

Its weird, I'll play something 5x in a row just fine then make an error that I've never made before.

Yeah that looks like a very challenging one. Even memorizing it seems daunting!

I'll start on it tonight. What would you like to see in the first video? The ability to play all the way through it?

Well, really man, me too, I was making these faults before, and I can say that, the reason for these errors are %90 lack of focus. When you play something like that, you need to thing in advance, you need to think about the next note when you are playing one before... %10 is not getting comfortable with what you are actually playing, that makes you stop thinking in advance. I believe after 1000 times of playing %10 is not an issue.

For the next exercise I expect you to be able to play 1st video's content with the lowest bpm choice. Next night you'll go for the 1st and 2nd etc... after you completed all, you will start to speed up. Remember you have to use AP at all times and use the fingers indicated. Right?

Gotcha.

Yep AP isnt a problem for me. I prefer it anyway.

Correct fingering. Yep. I see that in the tab.
