Heri (lead vocals/guitar) from the band TYR has been doing a series of instructional vids and I gotta say I think they are GREAT. Here is his vid about working with a Metronome. If you have never worked with one, it's a great place to start. You can move on to using midi drums or a real drummer, but being able to play along with a count is one of the basic skills that some folks just seem to skip. Be patient with yourself and give it a whirl smile.gif

This is something I wish I'd done when starting out, although I was playing with real Drummers which was my way of learning but not running exercises.

Playing with a real drummer is something that many players today just don't get to do. I was lucky and got to play with several great drummers including Steve Flynn from Atheist. Playing with a real drummer is a great way to get better at everything. Your sense of timing, rythm, improvisation, etc. I'd suggest everyone try to play with a live drummer if at all possible.

But yeah, it's also important to know at least how to work with a metronome as it's a great tool to let you really focus in on your sense of internal time. Developing time as an instinct is crucial in becoming a balanced player imho smile.gif
