GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ Sikth

Posted by: Toni Suominen Aug 7 2008, 09:00 PM

Since there was no topic on this unfortunately now broken-up band, I wanted to start some discussion about them.
If you don't know them, here's some videos of them:

A music video for their song "Bland Street Bloom"

The guitarists of Sikth (Pin and Dan) playing a bunch of their tunes:

Their guitarwork is simply brilliant and also very inventive and unique. I've never heard anything like them. Super-technical but also melodic and with great hooks.

Check out their latest and sadly their last album "Death of a Dead Day" if you want to hear more of them. Personally I find it to be their best album smile.gif

I haven't listened too much to Sikth, though I've known about them for many years, but I will see if I can do that soon. I'm not a great fan of the vocals though.

Yeah, I know what you mean dude, I've heard a lot of people complaining about the vocals too, but personally they have grown on me, I like the variations between harsh and clean vocals they have. But I can totally understand why many people don't like the vocals, for starters they are absolutely crazy at some points biggrin.gif

Sure, it's not that I cannot live with it. But it's not something I would listen to if my parents were close enough to hear, as they would complain a lot! biggrin.gif

I would definatley go see them in concert if they came to Denmark.

Same opinion here.
Musicians are not supposed to sound themselves?. Specially singers why most modern bands have to follow the same pattern? Growl, melody, growl. Wouldn't you try to study your type of vocals and create your own personal sound?. Just a thought. I don't wanna upset anyone here.

I like bands who use growling and clean vocals creatively like for example Opeth. I usually don't like it either when it follows the same pattern: growling in the verse and clean vocals in the chorus. Boooring smile.gif

SIKTH! Fantastic band. Amazing guitar work! As I mentioned in another thread they're the only band together with Protest The Hero who are able to make good music out of shredding. Class act! I'm absolutely gutted they broke up!

Yeah, me too man, they could have released several more amazing albums if they wouldn't have broken up, such a shame sad.gif

Yeah. They could at least've released some covers and b-sides. Think of a radiohead cover with a sikth twist or something like it. I can't say much more than that. Brilliant band. And uh yeh.. gotta love the "humour" in their music. Take the breakdown (or the whole song for instance) of Pussyfoot "live LiFe live LiFe NOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!" *headbanging*.

Break up. what a shame. It'll be interesting to see what they'll do now. But something tells me it won't be near the brilliance of Sikth!

One of their singers, Justin and the other guitar player Dan have a studio and they work as producers and recording engineers for bands and such, but I don't think they have any musical-projects going on at the moment. I haven't heard anything about their other guitarist, Pin, either.

yeah. I heard they've been involved with the new Exit Ten (nice band but waay more mainstream sounding) album. But that's about it.

Pin is actually working on a new band with thomas lang on drums. they are called within the void. They have a myspace set up at the moment, but nothing serious recorded yet. they are still looking for a vocalist before they record.

If anyone doesn't know who thomas lang is you should check him out on youtube, he is one of the greatest drummers ever, i have both of his DVDs, he's amazing.

I'm expecting really great htings from this band, i really hope they find a singer soon.
