I start with 1/8" wooden planks and cut to shape then sand them to fine tune them with sanding and polishing. I've been cutting a thumb dimple and finger groove in all the newer ones. Gives me even MORE control over the pick. What I've found, to my surprise, is that the same picks may not be good on all of my guitars. String gauge, action, sensitivity and other characteristics of each of my guitars will determine the pick that gets used. The picks displayed work great on my Paul and Gibby ES 150- DC as both have very hot pups and are extremely responsive. For my Gibby L5, its a jazz box and like smaller picks way better. My acoustics love the blunt tips for strumming chords....but extremely pointy picks for lead work or arpeggios. I've always known that the Bow is extremely important for control and tone on the violin. We as guitar players always overlook this connection with the guitar.
