If you are comfortable with playing it only downstrokes, then go for it.

Dont fix what dont need fixing cool.gif

Just find the way that works best for you and stick with it smile.gif

i checked out the song- id probably play "alternate" picking (though ultimate picking does sound super awesome)

if you feel confortable with downstrokes only then do that- but remember that if you cant play it alternate then maybe it'd be worth practising for the sake of improving your technique. But ofcourse it is your decision- play how it feels good to you.

hmm now im getting confused - whats the difference between ultimate picking and alternate picking? im pretty sure that ultimate picking is up down up down all the way but ive always thought that alternate picking is the same thing with another name ohmy.gif

Ya, alternate picking is just a steady up down up down motion. Not to be confused with economy picking, which I believe, is using a downstroke to travel below the string your currently on, and an upstroke to travel above your current string. I could be wrong but, there are plenty of lessons on both.

He was joking. As far as I know there is no such thing as "ultimate picking", it's just the word "alternate picking" misheard.

No worries though. Many people confuse the word "alternate" picking with "alternative" picking (when alternative picking is actually just another word used by some major players for the economy picking technique). On top of that, economy picking is often just called sweep picking.
