I don't like "pure shred" generally, fast runs with cool phrasing in between really works for me And learning some blues lessons has helped me with that i guess, but coming up with my own phrasing licks was better. Which is infact easier then 3 note per string pentatonic stuff cause you need to make smaller stretches And they sound wild! David also uses this kind of lick in his Metalhead solo if I remembered it correctly.
