MERTAY pointed me to this ENGL AMP sim on Plugin Alliance and it's got a 14 day trial and HOLY CRAP! It's just BAAARRRRRRUUUUTTAALL.

*I"M DOING A VIDEO PLAYTHROUGH THAT I"M GOING TO POST AS SOON AS IT"S UPLOADED!! Stay Tuned
And here we are This is me just plowing through some presets and then some IR cab changes on the ENGL amp plugin. If you were wondering how it sounds, well, it sounds about like this which is iMHO a bit SPIFF!!
I'm a bit more qurious about it as an ir/mix tool, also when you started to change the "mic chain" it started to sound more interesting to me.
Maybe your soldano and after this plug-in as ir/rec chain emulator?
The IR selection in this thing is really impressive. Some really top quality stuff and each is very unique. Some IR packs can sound very similar, not so with this one. I'll give it a shot with my soldano clone thats a fine idea! It's easy to plug in to my work flow now that its a clickable option on the 11 rack. Just turn everything off on the 11 rack except for the fx loop and bingo, guitar>soldano>usb to computer via 11 rack.
So all it would take is adding this plugin to a channel and defeating the preamp. That way it would still use the power amp simulation and be using the soldano as a preamp, and be able to use the IR.s This plugin is a great way to get to tons of nice IR combos.
Also, you can disable the PRE and POWER amp so it becomes one big IR selector
Cool! I'd love to hear the result
I've made a "METAL" preset that you can download and use with the 14 day demo of this ENGL plugin. I was going to use my soldano clone as the preamp but the built in preamp actually works better with the IR selection on board!
This plugin is a great example of how close they can make a plugin sound like the amp WITHOUT having to require that you buy $1,200 worth of UAD hardware! This same bunch of folks mades the FRIEDMAN BROWN EYE plugin but that one requires the pricey UAD hardware. I'm starting to thing the UAD thing is a huge scam. Sounds great, but so does this and it runs native on anything including a my four year old laptop. I got it going at 64 samples with no perceptible latency
Here is the patch (for the "non vintange" one of the two in the bundle) and a video tone demo.
