Hey guys,

Im afraid the time has come to part with a guitar ive had for over eight years, my old Jackson Performer, 24 frets and a floyd rose is just not me anymore. So im going to get rid of it and am looking at a telecaster instead, my first thoughts were for an american Standard but they still seem quite expensive for a fifty year old design, even used ones are not exactly cheap! I came across a 69 thinline and intend to audition one over the weekend, i am judging by the price these are a Mexican but they are very intriguing.

Any thoughts? or even any other makes models I should consider along the telecaster vibe.

I recently sold my japanesse Fender Thinline 69' tele, I played it for a few years in my younger years, and never really liked it. Sound was too thin, I didn't like the neck for some reason, and distortion never, ever sounded good... But that's just me. No one can answer that question, you really need to try the guitar yourself.

I've nothing against thinlines, they are just not for me. They are beautiful though.

Edit: If I ever get a tele again, it would be a 52' vintage or an american standard.

Personally, I really love the original telecaster design. It may be a 50 year old design, but there's a reason Jimmy Page used one on the first few Zeppelin albums before going Les Paul. It's still a great guitar smile.gif

If you mean that his tele was given to him from Beck, yes, but I guess my point was more that it still sounded great smile.gif

have a look at the following:-
MIJ '72 Thinline ~ Has two Humbuckers and is quite 'fat' sounding.

TC 90 ~ Double Cutaway with Seymour Duncan P90's!

Also check out the G&L 'Legacy'/'Tribute' Series. If you fancy building to your own design then check out Warmoth Parts! You can build a stunning Instrument relatively cheaply!!!!

I have both the Pictured ones and a USA G&L and love all 3 of them!!

I may be interested in your Jackson when the time comes!!!!

Standard Tele's are awesome guitars, and there is a reason that this guitar costs that much. If it is out of your budget, the possibly check out some good MIM Tele's, and try them out on some tube amp so you can get a good idea what you are looking for. Tele's with humbuckers can sound awesome as well.

thanks pal, they are some really nice pieces you got there!

I checked out the G&L stuff, its pretty neat but seems quite rare up this end of the country (Its grim up north!).

Ill post some pics of the Jackson, its actually a really nice guitar, feels very strat like in the neck for sure.

Dare I mention eBay?? ohmy.gif
I had a quick look and there are a few Tribute/Legacy Tele's (Asat) on there!

As well as the TC 90 there's also the JA 90 (Jimmy Adkins Signature) which is the same thinline body and P90's but with a standard single cutaway! There's also 3 or 4 different John 5 Sig models! I think it's all going to come down to what you like best for your budget too!!!

If I was going for a Tele it wold be a custom build like Jose Mena like in his lesson Rock Pop Solo cool.gif

Gorgeous looking and awsome sounding, (mainly down to Jose mind).

Thats a nice looking guitar, I think it would be out of my price range to be honest and i think it loses some of the traditional vibe im after by being a hot rod type tele custom.

Personally Tele is my favorite guitar. I tried many kinds of tele but almost no matter which one I try, it's just awesome. I'm getting one when I can afford it.

As Ivan said MIM is good guitars for a reasonable price. The later series called Baja is also Mexican i believe, but it's just a new series offering a really good guitar at also reasonable prices (I think! Don't hang me if im wrong)

I personally would avoid Tex mex teles Played one half year ago theres no tele magi....
theres no twang and all other things that makes tele a tele.. if you want the real deal...
go get some original companys guitar like Blade, G&L, Tokai , or american strat, those are guitars that worth the buck and will twang your life for eternity
