Maybe not as groovy as some of your suggestions but the grooviest guitarist who I actually listen to is Jan Cyrka.

Definitely the album 'Spirit'.. it's got interplay between the guitar melody and drums to die for !!

Yes, Tony is definitely right about Nile Rodgers... probably sessioned on more records than most of us have had hot dinners :-) A very in demand funk player, he played on most of Michael Jackson's hits, among others.
