I hope so too!! It could be a great chance to get a nice guitar. Once people start going back to work and have less time for guitar, they might start selling off all of the killer axes they bought during the lockdown period. Could be a time to make some guitar investments that could pay off very well in coming years. Same with AMPS etc. Music stores could be filled with used gear and reverb/ebay as well.

Also, on another note, in a year or so, when Apple puts out the new macs that use intel cpu chips and ditch intel chips, all of the intel based macs are going to be very very cheap. It might be a great time to grab a macbook to run logic or final cut pro. It's on borrowed time though as they are moving away from that platform so you may not be able to update your apple aps or OS. But you can use it to get work done for many years.

I don't think sales increased so drastically where I live but its a good reminder to keep an eye out when the weather starts to warm-up again.

Can mac's still be converted to PC's?

Windows is more forgiving to accept new and use older programs (I'm still using win7) compared to mac's, so instead of building one again I might consider a used mac if prices fall as expected.

A macbook pro generally lasts between 5 and 8 years and there's plenty of folks using MBPs and imacs from 2012 for music production. As of now Apple is still shipping new macs with both the Catalina OS and Intel chips. They will support both for I would bet the next 8 years at least, probably 10. *From what I hear, as far as the 'ARM' chips are concerned, only the ios devices and macbook air will get them to start. You got time.

Im one of them smile.gif I bought my Quad i7 Geforce equipped MacBook Pro used for $500. Then put 16gb of ram and a 1TB SSD drive in it and have been using it for years. I'm running premiere cs6 as it's the last version that doesn't require a monthly subscription from Adobe! I won't be installing the latest OS as it will make any intel machine run slower since everything has to pass through an emulation layer. The new OS is really designed for the upcoming APPLE machines with APPLE CPU chips. At that point, Mobile apps and Desktop Apps will be the same thing essentially. There will be little difference between mobile and desktop in the Apple ecosystem.

MERTAY:
Nearly any mac can run "BOOTCAMP" allowing you to install WINDOWS and MAC OS on different partitions or different drives. However, for the same money, you'd still be better off to buy a windows machine IMHO just for the performance per dollar if you plan on running windows. The only reason to own a mac imho is to use programs only the mac supports, e.g. LOGIC X and FINAL CUT PRO. If you are a REAPER user, for the same dollar figure, you can get a lot more performance on a PC typically. The expected dip in MAC prices due to the impending switch to ARM chips in Macs will reduce the cost of used macs, but even then, I doubt they will match PCs dollar for dollar in value. The best value / power option in mac land right now is buying an old Mac Pro Tower with Intel Chips in it. You can put in an SSD, any graphic card you want, and even upgrade the CPU. It's very upgradeable. However, always check which version of the Mac operating system the unit will support and make sure your applications will work and drivers, etc. under that version.

This guy took an older Mac Pro tower and upgraded it to a 12 cpu core, 128 GB ram, monster.
