Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Cool John -

This is promising. You are mostly doing a good here though at times you mess upp a little - and I think it goes down to your right hand picking movement.

If you compare with Ben - you have a larger wrist movement and less arm movement. Bigger wrist movements are prone to inconsistencies, so this is why I think you would have less mistakes if you focused on a tighter picking hand movement.

You get a 7 from me. Keep up the good work!

Hi Josch!

Good job with this lesson. It needs some timing adjustment but it's very close.

I would put some attention into your gallop work here, to make it sounds more natural and with more groove. If you compare your gallop with Ben's you'll notice that yours is heavier while the other has a lighter feel. I also note that your playing is not going completely tight with the drums, you tend to go before or after the beat in a random way. This is a very little issue, but working on it is important to polish your rhythm skills.

The reasons can be related to that detail noted by Kris about your right hand movement, buit it can also be relateding to lack of relaxation while playing. Try to relax while playing, and follow the groove with your whole body, tap with your foot, move your head, feel the rhythm inside.

Other than that, this is on the right track. Keep on working!

Hey there!

I know it's a weird thing but sometiems instructors may disagree with each other...(that's why there's 3 of us to grade Rec takes).
There are several ways od doing same thing properly. For me it was always a wrist motion width matched to particular tempo and it gave me a feel of comfort and being "glued" with the backing. So what Kris points out as disadvantage, I personally see as advantage. Now the thing that makes me wonder and where to search for a tweak is maybe your right hand resting point. Your hand goes pretty straight before you hit the string. Now watch Ben's take. You'll notice that he "reaches" for the string upon the pick. His hand has a wider picking range while your seems to cross the "edge point" of wrist rotation. In other words...try to move your right palm a little lower and reach for the string before you hit it. Tonally it all is quite descent. Timing ais the problem to be solved and obvious reason for this is some kind of irregularities in your right hand motion.
