> Rules

Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Thanks Steve,

First - you audio has a sync issue with video which means we cannot rely that much on video to give you feedback.

You seem to rely quite a bit on economy picking which is not wrong per se - but it would be interesting to see how you tackle an up tempo lesson that requires consistent picking.

---

Your take sounds stunningly beautiful - absolutely love it!

Once again - your tone is very soft and juicy but lacks Guido's top end. What this does is you will need to mix your guitar much louder than the backing. Since the backing ads so much musicality to the take - this is a bit of a loss for you. And considering how good it sounds now, it would be very interesting to hear it with a proper mix/balance.

I think you absolutely nail the feel here - well done you get a 9 from me!

Hi Steve!

This lesson is a great choice! You can play all the licks clean and your tone is very convincing here. I think that the next step is to put your focus on details which are more related to feeling and expressive techniques.

There is some more work to do in order to adjust your bending technique which tends to be "hurried" and in many cases you don't reach the correct pitch. And this "hurried" feeling appears also when playing some other phrases with slide and vibrato.

My suggestion is that you take some time to compare each phrase from your video with the original lesson and try to adjust these details. Focus on timing, bending, vibrato, slides and articulation.

Keep on the hard work!!

Now I can see it! smile.gif Well played! You do a very good job on hand synch and fret/string traverse here. It has a solid groove to it and good energy when you play it. It's a very enjoyable listen which is my primary concern. Is it something I'd listen to for fun? Yes! Very good job over all.

Once place I'd put a bit more focus is your vibrato. When doing a one finger vibrato, wag that finger wide!! It accentuates the vibrato. one finger vibrato is the hardest way to do it but you will get used to it. You can pull your thumb off the neck and use the weight of your hand to make it a wider vibrato. Give it a try on your next REC!

Solid 8 From me!

Todd

Hey there!

First of all congrats on excellent lesson choice!

Let me start from the things that assists me through all the take length - pitch issues. I can rather guess but you may rather have problems with your tremolo working not descent enough. I guess that string do not get back to their perfect pitch point once you use whammy. This topic is quite wide to describe here but the punchline is that with typical strat tremolo, you need to learn how to "live with it". It usually works best when it's in flow mode and uses less strenght to pull strings back after a whammy down move.It also requires you to tune the guitar slightly different way. You push the whammy bar down and let it go back freely. Then you tune a string. Repeat until every whammy down and release move will sound in tune. Then you will most probably still loose some cents after string bending, but you can always qwuickly fix the tuning by pressing whammy bar down and let it release freely. It doesn't sound perfect but it's still a better solution and overall pitch correct feel than typical string stretching and tuning the usual way.

Besides this I get lot's of good impression like great right hand work with stable unwanted noise muting. You playing is confident and ornaments execution powerfull. Pitch issue takes a lot of overall performance and it's sad becasue it's audioable that you have some good potential in your hands
